I've never pistol hunted, but when I bow hunt I limit my shots to under 40 yards for multiple reasons. I've never really had a problem making accurate shots on game. I get the adrenaline "shakes" after I've fired, which is opposite most peoples reaction. I limit my bow shots because the animals like to "jump" the arrow when they hear the shot, and because I want my arrow to penetrate well into the vital organs of the game animal. I do not want any animal to suffer any more than I can help it, and if that means I limit my range, then so be it. A good pistol setup with plenty of practice will negate my 40 yard limit easily. I can see 100 yards being possible with the right pistol/scope combination. And of course plenty of practice is needed as always.
Good hunting!
