Re: How often do you practice?
I shoot 2-3 IDPA matches a month.
IDPA = I Don't Practice Anymore.
Seriously, as far as "practice" goes I don't. I shoot competition and the only other reason to go to the range is for my CHL classes or to test ammo and guns.

Re: How often do you practice?
I go an average of once a week. Usually, I run 100 rounds out of my carry or home defense, or 50 out of my carry or home defense and 50 out of something else for fun. More often than not, I take a .22 as well and shoot it until I've had my fill.
I get kind of cranky if I don't shoot at least once a month.

I'm similar. I shoot 1-2 IDPA matches a week.MoJo wrote:I shoot 2-3 IDPA matches a month.

Since I got into IDPA, going to the range and firing from the line just doesn't appeal to me any more. Plus, range trips involving slow fire cut into my IDPA ammo budget.

Re: How often do you practice?
Nowhere near enough. Not enough hours in the week-end. When I go I will run 50 rounds through each of my 40's, my SP101, and the wifes PM9 then 25 .45's and a few .410's through the Judge.
I wish I had the time to get down to my place near Centerville and shoot some moving targets. When I was younger used to thin out the armadillo and squirrel population with .22 and .357 revolvers and a Ruger 1022 in tow
.
Man wish my grandmother was around to fix squirrel dumplings and a big pot of Poke Salad. Made a poor Texas country feast. That would make 3 hours of road time worth it for a day of shooting.

Re: How often do you practice?
Try to get out the back door and shoot at least once a week, I agree that the type of practice is what is important!
Re: How often do you practice?
This is exactly how I feel after having started shooting IDPA. The only time I go to a "regular" range now is if a friend wants me to go with them or a group get together.canvasbck wrote:I'm similar. I shoot 1-2 IDPA matches a week.MoJo wrote:I shoot 2-3 IDPA matches a month.

Try and go every saterday, if I cant make it when they open I will miss that week. I like to shoot with no one around me so its easy to find my odd caliber brass.

Re: How often do you practice?
Based upon my range trip yesterday, not nearly enough.
Granted I rented an M&P45c to try out but it was not my best outing.

Re: How often do you practice?
I made it to Smart Shoot today and i was ab le to sqeeze off about 200 rounds, 20 of which was the Speer 124 JHP +P and 25 of the Hornady 147 TAP JHP. I liked the feel of the Speer better than the Hornady. I plan to use the Speer as my primary carry load.
Oh, and I stopped by Cabelas and picked up some S & B 115 FMJ for $9.99 for 50 rounds. I've got to stay away from the place...

Re: How often do you practice?
I used to shoot once a week and dry fire every day. Now its more like shooting once a month and dry firing 3-4 times a week.
Re: How often do you practice?
I try to go to the range at least once every two weeks or so...
In my case, I feel that I need to improve on doing more dry fire sessions at home. (right now its like once a month)

Re: How often do you practice?
I practice once a week and shoot IDPA around two matches a month. All with my carry gun.
For me IDPA is not considered a practice session. Spending 5 hours on the range SOing a squad and then actually shooting for less than 5 minutes is not very effective practice. It is fun though.

Re: How often do you practice?
I go to the range at least once a week, average 5 per month or more. But I live a half mile from our private range and 5 miles from a friends large private range where we get together often to shoot steel and dualing targets. I usually take several handguns and long guns to the range.
Since I carry different guns for EDC, I may or may not shoot every EDC each time I go to the range. But I always shoot
SA's and revolvers and at least one of the EDCs. I take grand kids to the range with me usually and it is a chance to let them shoot mostly. I have been going to the range for over 50 years, so it is their turn. I do make them pick a few things to shoot, so that I do not have to clean every gun in the safe. We usually run at least a brick of .22 through a variety of hand and long guns. Tomorrow I am taking some new friends so they can shoot a variety of handguns to determine what they would like to purchase. I have talked them into getting their CHL and they are in the market for a carry gun. I can loan them something to take the class with, but they need to be comfortable with that gun and the manual of arms for its operation and safe handling.

Re: How often do you practice?
I wish i could go once a week but i now typically go about once a month. Having to save money and not shoot sucks.

Re: How often do you practice?
I was at the range this morning, few of us old retired men shoot a bullseye match, we shoot .22s and .45s at 25 and 50 yards.
The one thing about that game is that it shows how bad your trigger control is, since it is all one hand shooting. I also shoot USPSA matches.
