The above link is to Academy's website, but this week's ad is not up yet.

For the sale week of July 17-23, 2011, the following guns are for sale.

REVOLVERS
Heritage Rough Rider (cowboy gun), .22 LR/Mag. 6 rounds, single action. $176.99 Every day.

Ruger LCR, .38 Special, 5 rounds, price was dropped from $449.99 to $409.99.

SEMI-AUTOMATIC
Umarex Regent 1911, .45 ACP, 7 + 1 rounds, price was dropped from $449.99 to $429.99.
This brand name was new to me. If anyone else is familiar with it, please post your comments on this thread.
Is this a "value" gun (inexpensive but goes bang every time) or a low priced, unreliable unit?

The above link has a few pix of the 2 models of 1911 that Umarex offers. The company's based in Little Rock, AR

SHOTGUNS

Remington 870 Pump, 12 gauge, 26" or 28" barrels.
20 gauge models are also available in 26" or 28" barrels.
Both gauges are $299.99 every day.

Happy shopping, shootists.

Umarex makes .22LR "tactical" rifles for some of the big names like Colt and HK. They seem to get mixed reviews. I know nothing about their centerfire pistols. I will refrain from commenting on whether a $400+ pricetag is low priced. ;-)

I believe those Umarex 1911s are made in Turkey. :txflag:
Here's a link to the GunBlast.com review: http://gunblast.com/Regent-1911.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The regent 1911 is made in turkey I think. It was planned out by the guy that did the AGI armorers course DVD I just watched. They flew him over and he helped them plan it out. He said it's the best 1911 under $800. Lots of high dollar machines and good mfgr practices.

I'm a little taken aback that you think that $429 is not "low priced" for a 1911.
RIA's are in that basic neighborhood. Taurus 1911's are $615'ish. Springers are another step up in 1911 prices.
Kimbers trump Springers. STI's and other high end 1911's up the ante even more.

So, given the pricing hierarchy that I have just laid out, it seems accuate to characterize a $429 1911 as "low priced".
Not that I've got $429 laying around, but if I did, an entry level 1911 might be just the ticket.

IIRC, you were a 1911 fan before you left that fold for a gun that 1911 fanboys would deem to be the "dark side". :-)

If he is like me, I remember when a top of the line Colt wasn't much more than that. But then I bought a Python for $300.00 and people thought I paid too much. ;-)

You sound like me - a gentleman "of a certain age" whose first vehicles had openable vent vindows, the high beam headlight switch on the floor,
and a bench seat to share with your future bride.

I still have four 1911s, including the one I used at Gunsite as a yoot, but I think 1911s are rather overpriced these days. [1]

Here's the thing. I can get a new Glock, XD or M&P between $400 and $500. I think that's a reasonable price for a good quality carry gun. When I hear low priced, I think of something in the sub $300 range, like a Kel-Tec PF-9.

1911 pattern pistols are not in the same category as polymer striker fired guns.

More metal, more machining, more fitting. They are not trying to compete IMO.

It's interesting that Jeff tested with a variety of ammo and didn't have any failures, whereas my new American Handgunner magazine that came Saturday also has a review of it and the author coudn't get anything to feed other than 230gr BALL ammo.

So your mileage may vary, but certainly a worthy 1911 for $429 (except for the stupid firing pin safety) :banghead:

I have both series 70 and 80 Colts and they all work great. Little bit longer assembly on the 80s but the FPS doesn't bother me.
