I saw something good that made me smile last week. I was watching the new show "Falling Skies" and there was an exhange between the main character and his son that went like this:

Father: "Need some more ammo? More hollow nose rounds?"
Son: " Hollow points. And yes another clip would be nice..."
Father: "... Magazine" (he smiles and hands his son another Magazine filled with Hollow Points)

I had a good chuckle at this and appreciated it. A writer somewhere actually is a gun enthusiast that shares contempt for folks in and outside of hollywood not knowing the correct terms for firearm related items. I can honestly say that's the first time i've seen a show call hollywood gunplay out on that type of mistake.

Neat stuff. "rlol"

I know you CAN drop a hammer on a live round in a 1911 if you're very careful, but no one ever does it because it is an unsafe, unnecessary thing to do.

Just gets on my nerves. Or the revolver cocking noise any time anyone so much as looks at a gun, or picks it up.

Those are the 2 that pop to mind instantly anyway. :biggrinjester:
Worse yet, cocking a 1911 sounds like cocking a Single Action Army Colt.... as if all pistols had that distinctive 4 clicks as the hammer comes back.

I haven't noticed this... but

I did see the Aimpoints on backwards in some scenes of "Tears of the Sun".

I have to agree with several:

Cops or military clearing a facility and letting their partners walk right across their barrels.
Hiding behind tables and couches and not getting shot.
In the old westerns, somehow they could throw small objects in the air and shoot them to pieces, like their revolvers have 20 guage rounds.

One thing I thought was awesome, though, was when Myth Busters did the test on if you could actually dodge a sniper round if it was shot from far enough away. They discussed the flash rounds they used in Hollywood, and discussed in detail a lot of the differences in real life fire vs. Hollywood simulated firing.

Not to be a pain...:

BUT... If the 4-8 cables holding the elevator car DID all break the elevator wouldn't fall very far. They have intrinsic breaking mechanisms ... http://science.howstuffworks.com/scienc ... ion730.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The other night I watched the movie "The Mechanic" and while one guy was "learning" to shoot he was shooting what appeared to be a Barrett .50 and they did a super slo-mo on the casing as it ejected... The end was crimped!!! He was shooting blanks and theyndid a CLOSE UP SUPER SLO-MO on it... Where's the tech adviser! "rlol" :banghead: "rlol"

IIRC, this was covered in another thread by someone else:

Sgt York, of WW1 fame, used a 1911 in real life to kill many advancing Germans.

But when they made the movie about him, they could not get .45 blanks to fire properly in a 1911.

So they switched out his gun to be a Luger P08 for the movie. Incorrect assumptions then began about
what he had used that day.

He doesn't like the scene in that one Lethal Weapon movie where the BG rotates the take-down lever and pulls the slide off the GG's gun, all in one fluid motion.
