Re: POLL .380 Ammo JHP or FMJ for self defense?
I think this is a good discussion. I think I will sell my .380’s cause I now cannot decide which ammo to use. I’ll just carry my .45’s with undisclosed type of ammo. If I stated what type of ammo I use, someone would talk me out of it. Then I’d have to sell them too.

Or We could make a target dummy (center mass only, of course) out of ballistic gel or something similar, take your .380, load it with FMJ & JHP (alternating of course), and go shooting.Commander Cody wrote:I think this is a good discussion. The beauty of the bazillion capacity "clips" is the potential of if one doesn't penetrate enough, just hit the shallow one with another bullet for the "Newton's cradle" effect
Or. only use .22 cal bullets which are thin enough to go between ribs and only aim between ribs ... just use 1,000 or so of them ...

A few months ago I started loading my LCP magazines with both FMJ & JHP, alternating between the two. I did that based on AndyC's comments in a prior thread about possible lack of penetration of JHP .380 rounds. He's got real world experience that I don't. I'm grateful to learn from it.RottenApple wrote:Or We could make a target dummy (center mass only, of course) out of ballistic gel or something similar, take your .380, load it with FMJ & JHP (alternating of course), and go shooting.Commander Cody wrote:I think this is a good discussion. ...nope....45s are best donated...I have a favorite charity in mind when you reach that point in the reasoning processCommander Cody wrote:I think this is a good discussion. Well done AndyC!
Fact....Fact....Fact....
This thread has forced me to go back over the data I read in determing what SD round I use in my 9mm, .40 and .45!

This debate started before most of the forum members were born. Dozens of gun magazine writers have made careers writing about "stopping power". Until there is unequivocal scientific proof the debate will continue. It can be an interesting subject to discuss, but I don't let it upset me too much. Most of us [me included] don't have any first hand experience examining gunshot wounds so most of our conclusions are "educated guesses" based on second or third hand information.

Don't worry about it. As I well know, you cannot please all of the people all of the time. We, who spend more than a passing moment on this forum, become a bit like family. Sometimes we laugh; sometimes we fuss, but almost always, we eventually forgive and forget.AndyC wrote:Thanks - I wish I could have made my points more eloquently, though. No, this debate came later. The one you're thinking of is "9mm versus .45 ACP."WildBill wrote:This debate started before most of the forum members were born.

The .380 ACP was developed by John Moses Browning and introduced by Colt in 1908!The Annoyed Man wrote:No, this debate came later. The one you're thinking of is "9mm versus .45 ACP."WildBill wrote:This debate started before most of the forum members were born.
If Browning invented it, it must be just as good as .45 ACP.
