What are your movie pet peeves re: guns?

Probably the most annoying thing has already been mentioned a couple of times, namely, every gun clicking and clacking like a jar of nickels every time the guy holding it so much as twitches. The backwards Aimpoint picture on the last page brings up one that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Despite the fact that alp rifles/carbines in movies now absolutely have to be the high-speed/low-drag tacti-cool types with rails and accessories everywhere, no one ever actually uses the obligatory foregrip. Most people still just grab the gun by the magazine.

Conversely, mistakes that are too common to bother me much, but that I will notice and appreciate people getting right: actually showing appropriately-timed reloads and using a more realistic sound than the stock "pew-pew" for a suppressed weapon.

Let's give credit to one actor who always seemed to handle weapons correctly...Steve McQueen. In any war movie or western he always looked like he knew what he was doing.

No body aims they shoot from the hip making perfect shots every time (any movie made)

My biggest pet peeve--as has already been mentioned--is the lack of a need to reload.

There is a scene in Armageddon where the shuttle commander pulls out a gun. Although they were inside of the spacecraft, I would have liked to have seen how they would have portrayed the gun firing in zero gravity without oxygen.

All of those action & scifi shows that show dozens of bullets flying everywhere and hitting solid objects with NO ricochets happening! Also, those bullets hitting volatile materials with no explosions happening.

The utter failures of any of shooters failing to hit any target despite dozens of rounds fired...of course, it adds to the "suspense" and keeps people watching while the shows are using time on the sets.

Also, the "room clearing" by the incompetent guys/gals who point their weapons at their buddies while sweeping the area...of course, with hands on the triggers while doing it.

Then, there is the bad guy pointing a gun at someone's head about 1 to 2 feet away from them...the GG makes no attempt to duck or knock the hand away...more suspense...lol.

Then, there is the guy who feigns a suicide attempt with pointing the muzzle at such an angle to their head that the worst that would happen would be a serious powder burn or grazing cut to the scalp. Also, "frontal lobe" shots that would only cause a "pre-frontal lobotomy" on the guy...and not be lethal... Guess they were absent that day in biology class where there were pictures of "vital" parts of the head...e.g., brain stem, etc.

I had just gotten out of basic training and went to the movies where an M72 LAW was used against a helicopter (successfully I might add). The guy steps out of the elevator building on the roof and takes one step to the left, kneels down, takes aim and fires. The wall of the elevator building was right behind him. With the barrel pointed up at an angle that means the backblast would have been aimed right into the corner behind him therefore being reflected back onto him within a millisecond of firing. From what they told us during basic, always check to make sure the backblast isn't going to fry someone directly behind you or be reflected back onto you.

This used to happen all the time in the cheesy 1950's Superman TV series.

The bad guys would shoot at Superman's chest without effect, but when they threw the snubbie, Superman had to duck!

This one goes along with the terrible accuracy of everybody in the movies. Lack of collateral damage. You can't get in a gun fight with 10 crack heads in the middle of a neighborhood and not have to worry about where the 1000s of rounds that aren't hitting anybody are going.

A common one - any pistol going "Click, click, click" when it's empty - and it's a 1911 or Glock or something which isn't double-action.

Saw that last night halfway through Walking Tall; the cop's girlfriend empties a Glock and it then goes "Click, click, click" as she keeps pulling the trigger. I don't think the slide was even locked back, as an extra faux pas....

Another sound effect fail. Don't remember the movie but the GG pulls his weapon, places his hand on top of it and you hear the sound of the slide racking. And then he draws down on the BG with his revolver.

Biggest peeve: The Glock 7. Hands down.

Why? Because the false perception/fear of "plastic guns" (or porcelain guns) that can evade security is so ubiquitous that it was even discussed during the Heller trial at the Supreme Court, even though nothing like one exists. Sadly, it is the lie that has become truth.

There was an old war movie about an infantry platoon Conducting a rear guard action in Korea. One guy said something about being in a cave and a ricochet. And later on the bullet bounced off the cave wall and got one of them. For once they got it right. Someone's ricochet comment made me think of this.

Occasionally, I've seen movies where they show the bullet in flight... WITH THE FREAKING BRASS STILL ON IT.

Never noticed that one. Do you happen to remember which movie/show it was?
