Problems with a SigPro 2340

I am having a problem with my wife's gun. It's a SigPro 2340 (.40 cal) The issue is that while shooting, the slide fails to fully go back to place and the trigger doesn't reset. I can use my thumb to push the slide forward the fraction of an inch it's back then it'll fire again.

The thing is it doesn't do this after every shot, but it did it 5 times with about 100 rounds fired. Some Walmart Federal stuff, some Winchester white box and 10 rounds of Gold Dots.

I had a gunsmith take a look at it, but he said it was probably limp wristing. That honestly isn't the problem. We have had this gun for 6 years and it has always worked flawlessly until now.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so how did it get resolved?

I thought about calling Sig, but since we bought the gun used, I wasn't sure if they would help me or not. I've never had to send a gun in for repair and don't know the first thing on how to do this.

Any help would be appreicated.

I have a P2009 that did the same thing when it was brand new. The slide would stop just short of going into battery. A little nudge would make it fully close. I called Sig and sent it back for warranty repair. At that time it only took around 3 weeks to get it back, about 5 years ago. I had to pay shipping to them. Once I got it back it worked great. I shot it in IDPA and USPSA matches for about a year with no other problems.
Give Sig a call and see what they will do. Just make sure they understand the problem because when I had them on the phone they kept suggesting that I was doing something to cause the problem.

It might be a recoil spring problem, especially if you have a bunch of rounds through the gun. It's a $7 part, so it's probably worth a shot before you send it back to SIG (plus recoil springs should be replaced every few thousand rounds in a defensive weapon).

Try this. Load one up the tube and eject the magazine. Pull back on the slide until the shell is about half way out of the chamber. Point the pistol muzzle straight up and ease the slide closed very slowly, using spring pressure while you hold back on it. If it closes all the way by itself it is good. Now insert a magazine about half filled. Again pull back on the slide until the shell is about half way out of the chamber. Point the pistol muzzle pointing straight up and ease the slide closed very slowly, using spring pressure while you hold back on it. It may catch and not lock the barrel. Rotate the barrel to horizontal and it should finish locking without any assistance. If it does not do this change the recoil spring. Retest. If the recoil does not help see an armourer. Hope this is of assistance.

I bought a 2340 years ago...Matter of fact I am selling it to my newbie CHL'er...Yep, I have created a monster...But that's beside the point...

Never had a lick of problems with it, and I had fired all sorts of ammo through it...Good and bad...

If the cases aren't extracting or feeding properly,then it just sounds to me like an ammo problem...IMO, Sigs can be a little finicky when it comes to lack of cleaning and lubrication...I bnever went overboard on any lubrication of any firearm I have, but it was enough to keep things working withough any problems when Icarried this pistol before I was bit by the Glock-monster...

For you in might be a combination of things, gun needs a little TLC, and the limp wristing, while you say it cannot be a problem,it actually might....40 firearms are sometimes not very nice to the female of the species, my wife never liked the caliber, because it did have a bit of a bite when you shot it...So she got to be a lot better shooter with the 9mm and strangely enough, but not surprisingly with the .45...

Try someone else's pistol (unless your good on those as well) in one of those two calibers and see if she has the same problem...

I hate to sell my Sig, but a good friend needs a pistol, and I'm going to cut him a deal because he has demostrated his seriousness of purpose in learning all he can about guns and the law, and has developed a great mindset when it comes to self-defense in general...That Sig of mine is going to a good home, and it will serve him well...

You stated the slide isn't going into battery after you shoot and that you have had it for 6 years and bought it used. Because of this and not knowing how many rounds you have put through it and you may not know how many rounds were fired through it before you bought it I would start by replacing the recoil spring first. It's something that needs to be done every 3-5000 rounds on most pistols. You should be able to order one and not have to ship it anywhere so you'd save some money by trying that first.

Change your recoil spring, Clean the gun thoroughly, lube generously and see if that solves your problem. Your gun uses the same recoil spring as the SIG P239.
