Anyone go from 1.5in to 1.75in belt and regret it ?
Hi folks - I'm going to treat myself to a new beltman belt. Currently, I have 1.5in and am thinking about getting a 1.75in one for a bit more support. I normally wear jeans/cargos and test-fitted a piece of cardboard cut to 1.75in wide and several inches long. It fit quite snug - not too tight to make me nix the idea there and then, but then again not loose enough to immediately go place the order.
I can fit my holster with 1.75in loops so that's not an issue...
Anyone here use a 1.75in beltman belt, regretted buying that size, and wished they'd stuck with 1.5in ?
Cheers - SDS

have you made sure the pants you wear have belt loops that will fit a 1.75?

Yes I have one 1.75-inch belt (5.11 Tactical Operator) and with Comp Tac MTAC it's a pain because they have different size clips for 1.5- and 1.75-inch belts. Crossbreed clips work with either, but I carry my M&P/Comp Tac rig more now than my Glock/Crossbreed rig.

I wear a 1.5 and it's about right Comptac, Contoured reinforced.
Tough many belt loops will handle a 1.75 thin K-mart belt, gun belts are thicker and they might be a problem with some belt loops.
My clips on my holsters work fine with 1.5"

I still have a 1.75" belt, not an actual gun belt, but don't wear it much any more since getting a Galco 1.5" gun belt. I didn't really regret having it although it did present the problems austinrealtor mentioned. I just left th 1.75" clips on the minotaur and left the blackhawk set at 1.75" and wore them with whatever belt I needed for the occasion. I bought 1.5" black c-clips to go with the minotaur, but never really carried with a tucked shirt to require changing out the brown 1.75" regular clips. I have adjusted my blackhawk down to 1.5", but left the 1.75" clips on the minotaur because of the color. Strange, I know since I don't tuck my shirt in anyway, but I don't use it that much either. I may switch the clips out and see if I like the c-clips any better.
I don't really regret getting the 1.75" belt since it was only $20. However, I might have if it were an actual gun belt that cost more.

Thanks - so apart from the clips, that width belt otherwise works for you ?austinrealtor wrote:Yes I have one 1.75-inch belt (5.11 Tactical Operator) and with Comp Tac MTAC it's a pain because they have different size clips for 1.5- and 1.75-inch belts. I wear the 1.75 in 5.11 belt everyday. I ordered my comptac Mtac with the 1.75 belt clips and I have no reason to change. I Know most rigs will come with a 1.5 in clip but I can get 1.75 clips for a little more and it works fine for me.
As far as the pants having belt loops that fit, I wear wrangler cowboy cuts everyday for work, Express or Lee jeans or camo shorts for casual and I have yet to find a pair my belt wouldn't work with.

It did only because I only used it on some pants (jeans, hiking shorts) with loops big enough for it. I have other 1.5-inch leather gun belts (Beltman and a few 5.11) that I use for tucked concealed carry when belt is visible. I've tried the 1.75-inch web belt on some Dockers-like pants and it doesn't fit well. Also some jeans I picked up at Academy (Levis? Wranglers? Can't remember) it doesn't fit well either.Skydivesnake wrote:Thanks - so apart from the clips, that width belt otherwise works for you ?austinrealtor wrote:Yes I have one 1.75-inch belt (5.11 Tactical Operator) and with Comp Tac MTAC it's a pain because they have different size clips for 1.5- and 1.75-inch belts. I just got a 1.5-inch Wilderness Tactical web belt with "stiffiner" insert and like it much better (problem with 5.11 web belts is they only offer the "stiffiner" in 1.75 width "Operator" and not 1.5 width "Trainer".

Belts in general that have classic buckles and use holes can either be too tight or too loose. I suppose a hole punch would allow for perfect adjustment but, for me, stiff web belts that are infinitely adjustable fit the bill. I have been using a Patagonia 1 1/2" web belt with a heavy cast aluminum buckle for a couple of years and it works great. About $30.

Re: Anyone go from 1.5in to 1.75in belt and regret it ?
I wear a Galco 1.75 belt everyday and have been for the last 2 years. It is great quality, but it will be the last 1.75 I buy. The thing that is a hassle for me is that my cell phone cannot hook properly on the belt due to the fact that it is so wide. Most holsters are ok, but other accessories are problematic. A 1.5 will be more universal and make your life easier. If you don't affix other accessories to your belt, it may be a none issue for you.

I recently got a Wilderness Tactical in 1.75" with internal stiffener. So far I am very pleased since it is comfortable and does a good job holding a full sized pistol OWB. It does fit in my Dockers pants, but the loops are pretty snug, no problem in the old Wranglers or cargo pants.

I know you say you tested a piece of cardboard in your belt loops. That may not be enough of a test - remember that at least one of your loops (immediately next to the buckle) is likely to have a double layer of belt. And the belt may be thick enough that the double layer, along with the additional width, makes it difficult or nearly impossible to pass the belt thru the loop(s).
I recently went from a 1" (nice leather, but comparatively thin) belt to a 1.5" 5.11 tactical belt, and I can barely get the end of the belt, after "cinched", thru my belt loops. Granted, ladies jeans may well have generally smaller loops than gents. Just sharing what I've experienced.
