ABC13 Eyewitness News
(7/15/05 - HOUSTON) — A homeowner shot and killed a man who tried to break into his west Houston home.

The man says he heard someone trying to force their way into the house on Bellewood at Wirt around 3:45am Friday.

The owner confronted the intruder and says he warned him to go away.

"The individual said, 'Hey, I've got a gun and I'm going to go get it.' Then the homeowner told him 'Hey, I've got a gun also just to let you know.' The individual reached into his vehicle and produced what appeared to be a weapon at that time the homeowner shot him," said Sgt. LA Flores with the Houston Police Department.

Houston police are investigating. The suspect was found dead at the front door.

I would be interesting to hear more of this one.

Here is another report. Doesn't appear to offer any additional information.

Police: Man Fatally Shoots Home Invasion Suspect

Fri Jul 15, 8:42 AM ET

A homeowner fatally shot a man trying to break into his southwest Houston home Friday, Local 2 reported.

Officers with the Houston Police Department said a man in his 30s was fatally shot five times by the owner of a home in the 7800 block of Bellewood near Wirt.

The homeowner told police the man tried breaking into his home at about 3:45 a.m., and that when he approached the suspect, that man walked back to his car to retrieve a gun.

Police said when the suspect approached the home a second time, the homeowner opened fire on the man at the front door, hitting him at least five times.

Paramedics tried to revive the man at the scene but their efforts were not successful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

Police have not said if the homeowner and suspect knew one another or what the motive for the home intrusion might have been.

+1, good for him for standing up for himself.

Hopefully the grand jury will not go after him!
