Free NRA Membership

#1

Post by i8godzilla »

I searched and could not find this posted in another thread. If you buy a Taurus firearm in 2010 you get one year free NRA membership. Purchased a Millennium Pro about three months ago and the dealer said nothing of this offer. Guess they did not know.

I got a year free with my CHL class last September. The only problem: NRA membership is directed at raising funds for campaigning Pro-Gun ideals. With a free membership you're not really supporting the cause. I will say though, getting a CHL (and in turn the free membership) really brought me into the whole gun world, if I hadn't received the free membership I wouldn't have decided to join for real, which is probably the point in the long run.
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson

Don't worry, the phone solicitors will take care of that...

I do not believe from the NRA's perspective it is free. It is not the NRA that is 'giving it away'. The manufacture--Taurus--is the one providing the membership. I am sure that they have worked out a reduced rate with the NRA or agreed to some other one-time payment, grant, donation, ad campaign, etc.

Additionally, NRA membership includes a subscription to a selected magazine. I am sure there are advertisements in these. The cost of the ads are directly related to number of magazine subscriptions. One new subscription would not make a difference, however, an extra 1,000 would.

Plus like you said, "..if I hadn't received the free membership I wouldn't have decided to join for real, which is probably the point in the long run."

The "free" membership is limited, I receive only important updates, no calls, extra mailings, or magazines. When I renew with the real subscription I'll opt out of all those anyway. I figure the people that are on this board now know what the NRA is about, before I had my CHL I hadn't the slightest clue how important they can be.

I got one when I purchased my TCP 738 earlier in the year...the dealer didn't mention it. I was on the Taurus website looking for something and noticed it.

Not if you ask the NRA to stop. I did, and they did.

Taurus gives a 1 year membership with all purchases, the free membership is limited and does not include the $1000 gun insurance or life insurance. If for nothing else, I will always have a membership for the gun insurance (of course I am a NRA recruiter so I will always be a member no matter what).
