Strange Failure
I posted this on the 1911 forum, but I will post it here as well.
I bought my first 1911 two days ago. It is a used (few hundred rounds through it) Kimber Eclipse Pro II. After I bought it I ran exactly 100 rounds of WWB through it and it was flawless until the very last round. I noticed that when the second to last round was ejected, the slide didn't go all the way forward. I pulled the slide back slightly and realized that the last round was in the chamber, but was in front of the extractor.
I let the round fall out and reloaded it into the magazine and it fed fine. I ejected it and repeated this a few more times but it never happened again.
Has anyone else had an experience with this. Is it something I should worry about or was it just a fluke.
Thank you very much for your help.
(sorry so long-winded)

Re: Strange Failure
What is it about Kimber extractors? Seems like I am hearing this all the time.

Re: Strange Failure
Johnny, have you field stripped it and taken out the extractor and inspected it? It seems to me a broken extractor could cause this. Don't know that for a fact though. I've never had that happen to me.

Re: Strange Failure
How many magazines do you have? If you have more than one mark them so you can identify them. The problem you have described sounds like the last round "popped" out of the mag before it was fed under the extractor. If it doesn't happen again don't worry about it. If it happens again try a new magazine.

Re: Strange Failure
Sounds like a magazine issue. Buy some quality 7 round magazines with a bump on the follower (important for flush fit). Or if you insist on buying 8 rounders make sure they are not flush fit. I like checkmate mags with hybrid feed lips as they seem to work in every gun they are inserted into. The only extractor issue you should see in a unaltered Kimber is if the gun has an external extractor.

Re: Strange Failure
I only have the one magazine. It is an 8 round with a bumper pad.
Also, it is an internal extractor

Re: Strange Failure
ok, does the bumper pad have to be removed to take down the magazine? if not then its a flush fit and should be avoided or rebuilt with a 7 round spring and follower (Dimpled). Look up posts by 1911 Tuner on the m1911.org forums and you will learn more about magazines than you though possible. In fact I would suggest that you start here: http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php ... 0a5f9&f=53" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and this thread describes your problem I believe: http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=11580" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Strange Failure
If it only happened once,I wouldn't worry about it.
Re: Strange Failure
It's a common problem with many 1911's. I have had it a couple of times with my Colt Government Model Series 70 Reissue. IIRC, it's normally attributed to the mag -- weak spring and/or lack of the dimple on the follower (though my mags do have the dimple).

Re: Strange Failure
These magazines are a little pricey but there is not a better mag on the market. If your gun won't run with a COBRA MAG then it is a trotline sinker.

Johnny, I told you not to buy a Kimber! You better let me bring it home and exorcise those demons out of it.
