Re: crazy gun video
So I guess after you determine whether the BG has shot at you with a semi-auto or a revolver you can then deside to try and stop the slide, if there is one.
Disarming a BG is one thing, and perhaps a very real option, based on the situation. This guy and HIS technique are a complete joke.

Re: crazy gun video
I was talking about Krav Maga disarming techniques which are much as Steve described - with the addition of pivoting so that you have an even greater chance of being out of the line of fire. I can tell you that its impossible to hold on to the weapon when somebody applies the correct leverage. If your trigger was in the guard, it would be pretty tough. The video that everyone is dissing is (for me) just confirmation that you aren't going to lose your hand if he does get a shot off while you are doing this.
I have some people in my KM class that no NOTHING about guns. While we were practicing shotgun disarms, I pointed out that even if the gun went off after you had deflected that they shouldn't turn loose - there hand wasn't going to melt off. This was a revelation to several.
Cobra Medic and I are on the same page here. The value of this video is to show that if you really have to grapple with a gun, its only the muzzle you need to worry about.

I just have a problem with the 'toober describing his video asIt does no such thing - and I would hate for people to think that that's all they have to do.Grabbing slide of automatic pistols to inactivate them

Re: crazy gun video
You could grab the cylinder if it's a revolver, thus "inactivating" the gun until the BG figures out how to manually cock the hammer.... Oh, oh! You could always stick your finger in the barrel! Yeah!
That having been said, I do agree that generally doing something is better than doing nothing, and worrying about the slide tearing skin off was the least of my concerns the one time I had a gun pointed at me. I've also seen a video somewhere on YouTube where a GG tries to grab the BG's gun in a convenience store robbery and the BG quickly steps back as he empties the gun into the GG. Very sobering clip, I'll post it sometime when I'm not on my phone.

I'd like to see that when you get a chance.Fangs wrote: I've also seen a video somewhere on YouTube where a GG tries to grab the BG's gun in a convenience store robbery and the BG quickly steps back as he empties the gun into the GG. Just recently bought a gun and started shooting again. I am new to forum and inexperienced, but this guy seems like an idiot to me.

Re: crazy gun video
I guess the reason that I find grabbing a gun so foolish is that if someone were to even gesture toward my drawn gun I would pull the trigger until it stopped going bang out of fear of losing it and having it used on me.

Have you seen his beer can videos? This man is assuredly an idiot.AndyC wrote:Welcome aboardkatybsrt wrote:Just recently bought a gun and started shooting again. I am new to forum and inexperienced, but this guy seems like an idiot to me.![]()
Well, I don't think the guy is an idiot per se - he's obviously well-meaning, but there's a lot more to be aware of than just grabbing the slide or a revolver's cylinder. It's a factor to be aware of, yes - but it is not a disarm in itself, and the promotion thereof is irresponsible as disarming is in no way a sport.

He may be an idiot but he's a whole lot smarter than people who ignore the message because of the messenger.

Hmm. Sorry, but I don't take counsel from fools. It's called credibility and this bone-head has none. Even if he had a PhD I wouldn't start grabbing slides and karate chopping beer cans. I really don't know why we're even debating this clown's ideas. He's good for a laugh and nothing more.SwimFan85 wrote:He may be an idiot but he's a whole lot smarter than people who ignore the message because of the messenger.
