Alamo Ammo

#1

Post by angrypistols »

Much to my disdain, because of the general unavailability of the ammo, my lovely wife bought a .380acp pistol.

After visiting about 3 different Walmarts and Academys over several days, I found a local gunshop that would only sell me 1 box per day, so I bought a box of Seller and Bellot ammo. I found that same ammo available in bulk from AlamoAmmo.com for, what I consider a reasonable price. I called their local number and they allow local pickup in the San Antonio area, so my question is has anyone here dealt with them and are they a reputable company?

I googled for reviews and didn't really find anything substantial either way.

Thanks for your time,

Angry

I had a discussion with them at a past HGCA show over their price on some .380 defense ammo. They wanted $100 for a box of 50 when at the same exact time I could get them for $49.95 at a local store. That was my first and only dealing with Alamo Ammo, maybe just my experience but I would do some shopping around.

I've never dealt with them, but if you just call academy every monday, wednesday and friday, they will usually get some in. I have been able to refuse .380 ammo because I had so much. Now since I bought a Sig P238,I've used all my ammo but 3 boxes, so I will be hunting again...

If you don't mind mail order, try Ammo to Go. I've bought from there a few times now and they're quick, competitively priced and delivery is fast.

Yep - I love seeing the shipping says "UPS Ground" and knowing that means I will get it the next day!

Y'all are not going to believe this. Somehow Alamo Ammo got my e-mail and e-mailed me a response today(10-13-2010) to my earlier post. Someone please explain to me how the dots connected and now I'm getting e-mail over a post made on the forum? :headscratch :confused5

Funny..my local Walmart had 10 or so boxes of .380 just last night locally here in the Houston area. They were also full of every other major handgun caliber execpt 2 boxes .38 special and I saw no .357 mag.

Here's where I shop for ammo. Buy from an out of state vendor and there is no sales tax. Offsets the shipping.

http://gun-deals.com/ammo

Put in your zip code and select the caliber. Once it's done loading, click on the right column for cost per round. It will re-sort the list so you can truly see the cheapest price, with shipping factored in.

I made the mistake of buying from ammo to go, not realizing they were in TX. Got hit with a $30 sales tax. Oops. Great price and fast service, but it was unexpected.
