Sunday Austin area range get together

#1

Post by A-R »

Hi all. Member Surprised Im Armed is commg to Austin for the "guns for groceries" thing. He and I are putting together an informal meet and greet and range trip for Sunday. Please reply here and/or PM if you'd like to join us.

Will work out details later. But probably meet somewhere - coffeeshop or such, then head to Eagle Peak?

Thanks CWOOD. That's a good suggestion. Is there any way for non-ARC members to shoot a bit, just to try out the range? Or is it strictly members only?

Wish I could, still out of town. I'd definitely try to make the next one.

Possibly in on this, pending other activities. PM inbound.

Please keep in mind that sanctioned matches at the Austin Rifle Club (IDPA and USPSC/ALSPPC) do NOT require ARC membership. Check the ARC calendar at http://austinrifleclub.org/index.php?op ... Itemid=124" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to see what is coming up (Sunday's open match is IDPA).

That being said, you still cannot use the other ranges without an ARC membership. If you want to casually sit at a picnic table and shoot the breeze in between shooting the paper targets, Eagle Peak is probably a better choice.

Ok so let's meet at 1 pm at It's A Grind coffeeshop on FM 1431 (Whitestone Blvd) at Quest Parkway ... basically in between "old" US 183 and the 183-A toll road. There is an Academy one mile to east and Wal Mart one mile to west if anyone needs to pick up ammo etc before heading to range.

Then we'll caravan over to Eagle Peak, west on FM 1431 to Nameless Road, turn right (north), then left on Lindemann Road (homemade range sign with arrow at this intersection).

Just land your helicopter at the Cedar Park hospital and one of us will pick you up ;-)

I can't afford the fuel to get to Cedar Park!

Jet A is around $4.57 a gallon (US average, but it's $5.20 at KAUS). The helicopter holds 110 gallons (750 pounds) and burns 5 pounds per minute. With 20 minutes of fuel left in the tank, it would take 95 gallons of fuel to fill the tank, which would cost $435! I'd need to stop for fuel twice on the trip from Louisiana to Cedar Park. :eek6

Maybe next time I'll be home, and can attend the get-together.

I think it costs my aunt about the same to fill up her boat for a weekend on Lake Travis

Sorry I wasn't able to attend this get together! Would have been nice to meet a few of y'all from around here. I live in Lakeway. And, I've never been to Eagle Peak before.

So, how'd it go? Anybody show?

Just me and SIA, guess this one was too short of notice for everyone else. But we had a good time. SIA is a super guy for those of you who get the chance to meet him in the future.

We should schedule another range trip for Austin folks soon.
