Sig P250 Questions
Who here has a Sig P250? I had the chance to handle a compact 9mm P250 today at Academy and really liked it. I have a few questions about the P250. How is the reliability? I'm assuming that since it is a Sig, this is probably an unecessary question but I figured I'd ask it anyways.
How does the conversion work? Do I need to purchase both a different grip and slide? The guy at the Academy counter said that the 9mm wouldn't convert to any other calibers but the other calibers would convert. Is this true?
Lastly, does anyone know of a range in the Houston area that rents out the compact P250? Right now the P250 is the handgun I'm leaning towards for carrying and the price ($459 at Academy) is right.
Thanks!

Re: Sig P250 Questions
I had one for a while, mine was a compact chambered in 40SW. The person at Academy is wrong, the gun can convert to any chambering be it 40, 357, or 45. If it is indeed a P250, that is a great price as I paid over $600 for mine with 3 magazines a year ago.
Academy still has some of the Sigpro Polymer frame 9mms, the are priced under $500, it can be recognized by the interchangeable backstraps and spurred hammer. I'm not surde if they can be converted. On a side note it is the official pistol of the French police...
Reliability wise, I fired over 1000 from it with no major problems, 800 of it was in a combat class, in the rain and mud no less. I had one double feed around 600 rds, my instructor told me to lube it and after that no more problems. I should mention the pistol and magazines were getting very wet and muddy yet it functioned well. I think it's a great pistol and wouldn't hesitate to carry one. If I shot left handed it would be my only pistol.
I stuck with my Glock because I prefer the Glock trigger to the double action only Sig trigger. But the Sig P250 medium grip shell fits my hand PERFECTLY, and my Glock is almost too big.
Buy one, you won't regret it.

I'm left handed. I've never handled a P250, let alone shot one. Why do you make that specific endorsement?flynbenny wrote:If I shot left handed it would be my only pistol.

Re: Sig P250 Questions
I have a P250 compact with over 14k rounds through it. It is by far my favorite semi. The trigger is smooth as glass and once you use it enough it is very easy to master, the long trigger pull IMO has no real merit, it is a bit longer than others but once you have practiced with it you can have the reset done and the slack taken out in the same amount of time as it takes to come back on target from the recoil. Like all other firearms it takes practice to get used to the gun and master it. If you were in the DFW area I would gladly meet you and let you shoot a compact and a sub-compact and decide for your self.
Although Sig does market the caliber exchange kits the only ones that can truly be found are the 40 cal. I am waiting for the 357 to be actually released. We are a Sig dealer and I cannot even get a 357 kit yet. I do like the 2-Sum package that they offer, we sell a lot of them, if you have not checked them out it would be worth a few minutes of your time.

Re: Sig P250 Questions
I have the P250 in 9mm with a conversion kit to .40.
Very reliable, very comfortable to shoot and wear (I dropped off for a nap in the recliner a while ago with it still on my hip...).
I've said it before, I don't like polymer pistols, but I like the P250 and it's become my primary carry.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

I have the P250 compact in 9mm and like it. The build quality is top-notch. It's been very reliable but I agree that the trigger takes some getting used to. It is a long pull.

Re: Sig P250 Questions
I'm glad to hear good reviews of the P250. I've seen this deal locally and it seems like a great idea...

One full size frame and one compact frame. This is one semi-auto that actually feels very natural in my hands. I don't own one, but wish I did!

Six for sure.

Top Gun in Houston has a wide selection of guns to rent. I don't know if Top Gun as the sub-compact but you can call and ask.

As well as my previous post offer to shoot my P250 you might want to check out a couple of sites for your research.SQLGeek wrote:Who here has a Sig P250? Re: Sig P250 Questions
I did handle on yesterday at the Fort Worth gun show. It did fit my hand well, and it was nice and light - which surprised me since Sigs always look like heavy, clunky pistols to me. However, the one thing I didn't like, at least compared to my M&P, or even my 1911s, is that the whole slide/barrel assembly seemed quite tall with a high bore axis. Am I the only one who notices this?
