As far as offering to buy them, I'm sure APD has that worked out, but face-to-face sales are legal, but unless you have a CHL, is it legal to walk around with them after you buy them? Open carry is illegal and concealed carry requires a license. If you try to purchase them on the premises I imagine that could be made to be illegal.

You may be on to something there about them slapping some "unconcealed handgun" charge on you. The poster specifically says to leave the gun and ammo in two separate paper bags and not to remove them. Of course, long guns are legal to carry unconcealed, but we all know APD's feelings on that - they'll likely try to arrest you on some disturbing the peace charge.

And they're most likely ripping these people off. $200 for an "assault rifle" ... heck, even a busted up SKS is worth more than that in today's inflated market. I seriously think some of us should go stand on the next corner and offer to pay more for these guns, and pay in cash - not glorified food stamps. Did you see that stainless revolver in the video? I'd give $200 cash for that right now even if it's just a Rossi, (instead of $100 in food stamps).

APD will probably turn around and sell these guns to an FFL who will sell them for three times what they owners got in food stamps.

This makes me so glad I live in Cedar Park.

We need to get a pro-gun lawyer to come with us on this, or at least provide knowledge to us, and their phone number, just in case.

I think as long as you didn't try to buy it right in front APD, it won't be that big of a deal.

Just bring a crappy airsoft gun to turn in, then 'take a look around' and see if there is anything good. Go talk to said persons and make them a better offer, then have them meet you somewhere else to do the sale.

2) Don't "carry it around" if you don't have a CHL, take it to your car ...I fail to see any difference in carrying it to your car to conceal it in your car, after a purchase in a parking lot or after a purchase in a gun store .... both are Sec. 46.02."directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control"

Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or
(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control.

Of course that's for handguns only ... not your $250.00 to $400.00 "Assault rifle" which you could open carry if you don't do anything to get a disorderly conduct charge.

I have bought guns directly in front of Police Officers before with no problems at gun stores and gun shows.
In fact, I'd probably feel safer purchasing a gun, or groceries, directly in front of a police officer who could keep watch while I'm distracted by counting money etc.

What I'll wonder about is if there is an increase in Home Burglaries between now and then so crackheads/methheads etc can get some inventory to sell to these people offering to fence weapons for them.

I certainly wouldn't buy stolen property (that's illegal, unless you are Austin P.D. I guess?) I'd be looking for the anti-gun person who inherited a relatives collection after he passed away and wants to sell them.

Anyone going to notify the State Police that Austin P.D. may be buying stolen property with intention to keep it instead of returning them to the rightful owners? I bet pawnbrokers/individuals would get in BIG trouble for that.

I think it's possible that there could be a rash of stolen toy guns. Kids tht leave them out in the yard possibly, or toy stores and grocery stores are going to see a lot of shoplifting because it's so much easier and it's a quick and easy 10 bucks for each. I wonder how "toyish" it can be before it is refused. "Replica" can mean about anything.

Random thoughts:

Good chance for the legality-challenged to fence all those stolen guns, "wet" guns, and, uh, undocumented NFA stuff that has outlived its usefulness. No questions asked!

They still have time to break in and stock up!

I don't know ... I have accumulated some "economy" handguns that wouldn't bring a dime through normal channels. Those might be worth selling at that price.

Why nothing for shotguns?

I don't like the phrasing "... tell an officer you're there to turn in a gun." "Turn in" implies to me that there is some compliance or legal obligation involved. I guess they couldn't bring themselves to say, "sell".

Still, I dunno anything that would prevent others from bidding $50 higher in these face to face transactions.

If the church parking lot is posted, I guess we'd need to keep one foot off their property if carrying, since "Entry" means the entire body?

I"m not up on church parking lot property 30.06 law since I've never seen such a thing and ... mind is elsewhere today.

The nature of this gun show appears to be most attractive to face to face sales, I doubt many FFL/Dealers will attend since I don't see info on how to rent a table there
