Suggestions On Kel Tec

#1

Post by carlson1 »

A friend has a Kel Tec .380. Every time who shoots it on the first shot the mag falls out and the second round is stove pipped. Any ideals? Has anyone deal with Kel Tec's Customer service?

Thanks
Carl

Sorry, had to go for the cheap laugh.

Have you tried different mags? Problem could be isolated to one mag. Or perhaps the mag release is faulty or out of alignment or has a bad spring?

Their CS has always been polite and willing to help. If the problem can be solved by shipping you the parts, they have done so. They typically refund shipping charges if it is required to be returned.

I also suggest reading up on that type failure at http://www.ktog.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; before contacting Kel-tec. Information is king.

Also, for customers willing to pay to have the problem solved, there is a Kel-tec wizard in Lufkin.

EDIT: Livingston rather than Lufkin. http://www.gunsmith.fuselier.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My experience w/ KelTec was not as good as Mikes.
Short story is 1st Gen. 3AT was trouble for a lot of folks. CS was less than helpful over shipping. Lots of haggling & sent it in. When returned it had a KP32 mag in it.
Told me I was wrong. They did not make mistakes like that. :rolll
6 witness holes instead of 5 & I did not own a 32 at that time to make the mistake.
I sent it back on my dime & they sent me a 3AT mag upon arrival. :banghead:

One other reliable member here has his story too.

Seems their CS is either A+ or Bonamma Bad.

I do know the mag release is polimer & will wear out.
Hope yall have better dealing than I did.

Searching could not find nor could I remember any Kel Tec recall.

Perhaps being confused with the Ruger LCP recall?

I own P32, P3AT, SU-16C, PLR-16.

Beat me to it. I was thinking trash can.

I've heard of many people sending their kel-tecs back so I assume the process is somewhat simple just from the sheer numbers of kel-tec owners that end up returning the product for work.

Could be the shooter is placing their thumb over mag release when firing = mag gets released. Also, if the 3at has some range time, could be the plastic catch is worn = replacement is $.50. Stove pipe -- common to these little guns sometimes = different ammo or change grip. I have had two KT P3ATs and one PF9 - both perfect, never a problem. Just prefer a revolver these days.

Plastic catch against sheet metal cutout = rounded edge that should be sharp.
KT will mail you a couple new ones, fairly easy to chage out.
Or buy one of the metal aftermarket catches

I have 4 KT guns at the moment. They all work

Never had a problem with my Kahr. I also know many others who have never had a FTF with their Kahrs. They are also twice the price though.

Just an FYI to folks in this conversation, The earlier PF9's had some function issues. One of these is the mag release which originally was plastic. There were other upgrade performed along the way. The later issued PF9's come with the upgrades installed. If you find one with the metal mag release, it has all the upgrades installed.

I did some looking around on this because my daughter was looking for a carry weapon after getting her CHL this January. We found a NIB PF9 in Austin for $300 recently. We are doing the 'fluff and buff' and installing a belt clip today and then going shooting. Looking forward to excellent results. Will let you know how it goes.

We are also going to the Capitol today to test the new system.

More later.
