Re: Where do you buy your guns?
I've bought and sold various guns in most of the manners described above, but never yet via the internet. Well, not from an internet auction site anyway. I did just use the internet heavily today to research the specifics of Ruger 10/22s and ordered a target model through http://www.northtexasarms.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; tonight. They are so close and accomodating, it's perpetuating the addiction.

Re: Where do you buy your guns?
My first few guns were ordered from AIM Surplus and transferred through an FFL. It is no longer a hassle/expense I'm willing to tolerate unless it is absolutely necessary. Gunbroker falls in this category, as local FTF sellers are exceedingly rare. It is, however, a good place to get a feel for how much actual market price is for a particular model of gun. Doing a search for only completed auctions and looking at the guns that actually sold will let you get a good idea of what something should cost.
I used to go to gun shows, until it got to the point that the availability and pricing of guns was no longer worth the price of admission to look. I may go back if they ever turn into something other than a dumping ground for Jimenez and other junk guns and folks wanting extraordinary prices for ordinary guns.
Right now, I mainly buy at retail stores (Academy and Dick's, most notably) or buy from private sellers. I've made purchases via Texas Gun Trader to positive effect, and have purchased from a seller here on the board as well.
I think that about covers it.

The only thing better than owning a boat is having a friend that owns a boat. The only thing better than that is having a friend who holds an FFL and will get you pretty much anything at cost... Sometimes I jump on ridiculously great deals at Gunbroker (I once bought a SW Custom shop 44 mag supercomp w/factory alum case - unfired - for $750...that's what happens when you mark something 'no reserve'.)
Professional Training, Competition, Risk Avoidance, Situational Awareness, Tactical Mindset, 100,000+ rounds down range - the hardware is the least important part of the equation...

If I can't find what I am looking for in a private sale situation, my go to place has been Bud's Gun Shop. Their price and service is HARD to beat. The fact that they have layaway for online purchases makes that even sweeter. No wonder I don't have any money, but I have a darn nice collection of guns.

there is TexasGunTrader.com but most of the people there are insane asking for retail "new" prices for their used guns.
there are this forum and texasguntalk that have classifieds sections, and that's it?
where do you look for used guns? websites? pawn shops (been to one, they too ask for retail price)?
I like to hit up reputable well known pawn shops, my local gun shops( mainly just 1), and places like Bass Pro, Cabela's, and Academy Sports. I don't like to order on line because after FFl transfer fees, shipping charges, and if sold here in TEXAS state taxes, you end up paying the same price as the local guys and lose your "good deal". Plus you take the chance of "in-transit" issues, Things do still get "lost" in the mail(or fedex or ups or whoever). When I go to my local gun shop I rarley by anything new. Their profit margins can't keep up with the big chain stores so their NIB(New In the Box) stuff is usually more expensive. But they almost always have a good revolving selection of quality used guns for very competitve prices. If I can I choose to spend my money there, I'd much rather support my local guy the the big chain guys. The local pawn shops are ok for used guns but usually don't have a good selection and I don't know how much I trust the "undergrad" behind the counter on whether or not what he's selling is quality or junk.

Yes, Sportingarms.com is great. highly recommended.dubya wrote:Personally, I order what I want and buy from Becky at Sportingarms.com in Lewisville. They have a small standard markup and are great to work with.
