Does anyone have a copy of a Gunsmith/Full Take down manual for a Ruger Mark III?
My BIL has one that got screwed up when he tried to field strip it and the firing pin will not engage now.

What do you mean by "the firing pin will not engage now" - does it go click?
I recently picked up a MKIII target, and love to shoot it, but agree that it is by far the hardest field strip of any I've had to try, or rather, the reassembly. That said, http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/field_strip.htm had the key that I needed, scroll down to step 10, it illustrates the little cup in the mainspring that the hammer strut has to fall in to. I've found that after putting the slide in and getting the mainspring pin in and the hammer fully forward, with the gun upside down ensure that the strut is free (it can get behind a bar) then rotate the barrel up while pressing the mainspring in (like it's on it's back then it does a sit-up); it should have a bit of pressure right at the end. It'll take a few ties to get it, but now that part doesn't dissuade me from shooting it.

No it does not click anymore, he tried firing it and got nothing.
I am not sure what he did, but when I saw it the large pin that goes into the slide was stuck in front of where it needed to go and it needed some persuasion to get it out, now no more click/bang.

I don't have access to the tomes you require, but I will go on record as saying the reassembly of a Ruger .22 pistol is something to try the patience of the saintliest of folk. Love to shoot it, don't mind breaking it down or cleaning it, but the getting the bolt, the pin, and the mainspring housing together would have given Houdini a migraine. I should have learned to juggle at an earlier age. Some sort of prodding device, long and narrow, has come in handy, by my experience. Good luck.
