Ice Cream Man Shot To Death In Chicago

CHICAGO -- Someone shot and killed an ice cream man in Chicago Sunday night.

Police said he was shot as he drove his ice cream truck through the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

As the vehicle came to a rest, music that's typically deployed to draw the attention of children and their parents continued to play over the truck's loudspeakers.

One resident said the man came by the neighborhood every day in his truck and that kids would line up to buy ice cream from him. Isabell Williams said he was a nice man.

Williams -- who heard the truck crash into a car -- said she doesn't think any children witnessed the shooting.

Police said they have no motive and no one has been arrested.

Now I always thought that this kind of stuff should never happen in Chicago...

Can't even sell ice cream anymore without this happening...Pretty sad...

It is a thankless task that does not bring a lot to the individual doing it, but it does bring great joy to those who benefit from the effort...

Would be kinda neat to see that everytime that something like this unfortunately happens in that area, that emails would come flooding into the Mayors office up there in droves!

Makes you go hmmmmm...

Unfortunately that mayor would just say that more gun control was needed. He would think that if there was more gun control that that ice cream man would still be alive.

He just don't get it.

"Police said they have no motive and no one has been arrested."

It might have been that annoying music that they play over and over and over and over.......

Or he might have been selling drugs too. And had an unhappy customer or parent.

I'll bet there will be more to the story before it's over.

Being a shift worker, and knowing just how "Turkey In The Straw" can penetrate even then thickest brick walls while I'm trying to sleep, I can think of a motive or two.

The story in Sunday's Sun Times

The story in the Chicago Sun Times:

Looks like the speculation about drugs may not be that far off, but apparently there have previously been pure old-fashioned armed roberies in this area as well. At any rate, allowing the citizens to carry would almost certainly make the BGs look for greener pastures (and easier pickings) elsewhere...

like maybe D.C....
