9mm Largo???

#1

Post by agdude »

Does anyone know about this caliber? I've got a chance to pick up a Star Super chambered in 9mm Largo (9x23). Does anyone know anything about where to get this stuff or how to start reloading for it? Also does anyone know about the pistol itself? It's in about 50-60% condition, what should I offer the guy for it?

Thanks in advance

You need to move very carefully on this. I am not an expert on this caliber but I do remember reading that the 9mm Largo is NOT the 9x23 that is hotter than the 38 Super. The 9mm Largo is a much lower pressure design than the "9x23". It is an old Spanish pistol caliber. If you chamber a modern 9x23 round in a true 9 mm Largo pistol you may experience a kboom.
I urge you to research this with some real experts before heading off to the range with it.

Yes, be very careful, 9mm Largo is not 9X23!. I have a 9X23 and the pressures run in the rifle range at max. loads - 50,000 CUP. It's also a great cartridge.

Here's a good chart on the different 9mm chamberings:

Now that's good stuff to know. Can I use a 9x23 case and load it to 9mm largo pressures?
