If they come through the walls or roof, they want in worse than I want them out. But I agree that going that route is not really all that difficult. Been there and done that.

I agree. My only point was that a homemade safe may not be all that secure unless it's made of steel or concrete.

Truth be told, it's nearly impossible to keep someone from getting something from you if they REALLY want it. I suppose that's what insurance is for though.

On the other hand, I subscribe to the theory that if you make your house a hard target then most thieves will likely move on to find an easier one.

Anyway...back on safes. I didn't mean to hijack this thread.

Braden, I agree. Thieves can get anywhere if they want in bad enough. I do try to make myself the least accessible/least desirable target.
I do plan on bolting my new safe to the built-in shelves of the closet. I realize they can just saw the shelf out if they want, but I'm hoping it's more trouble than its worth to them. I don't imagine thieves like to work.

Like you say, if'n they want it bad enough, not much you can do.

My safe weighs 1100 lbs empty. with the firearms and ammo, who knows?

If they can remove it from the house, they can have it.

Then they have to break it open.

Too much work. Most thieves are lazy and opportunists.

Braden, yes sir my "safe" is only as secure as my house. For houses, ours is far more secure than most but not as secure as some. No rain delay for this parade either. Dead bolts on steel doors. Windows locked & not ealily entered for the average thief. If they get in the house then the garage the safe appears to be a tool cabinet & it holds that too. 6' high by 4' wide & 2' deep. Yes a good 2lb hammer, 48" crowbar & 30 minutes they can get them. It will take longer to get in the chest though than the average thief wants to spend. & I could do that when a good fire proof & 1000 lb safe is out of our reach. Ignorance is still the best lock. Most do not break in where they dont think things are.

Dh & I live in a rather modest house. I don't think we're the first priority for thieves, but I try to keep the house secure as if we were.

I have both a American Securites and a Browning..Been dragging the AMSE around for about 12 years now its still holding up just fine.Wife got me the Browning for Xmas last year..Im pleased with both of them..And yes, I do intend to fill them both..
