Each new centimeter of movement adds more energy to the total amount of potential energy stored in the spring than the centimeter before it did. The final couple of centimeters of movement on your slide could actually represent a significant percentage of the spring's overall force. It's best to allow the spring to utilize 100% of its capabilities to properly load the next round.

I also agree that the slide stop is (with most 1911's) metal on metal with no lubrication. The notch has a slight lip jutting out, and this can be broken by repeatedly forcing the stop down.

For longevity and reliability purposes, I would advocate pulling the slide back in all controllable situations.
can you explain that in a way dummies can understand ?
USA1, I'll explain it just for you.

Pull slide good.... release slide, not bad, but pull slide better.

You'll see tough guys in movies often ride the slide, that is, they pull the slide back and then slowly push the slide forward - not good...

found it
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

no, I saw it on an episode of Personal Defense TV. He talked about the "proper" (i know you love that word) way to clear a malfunction (tap, rack, bang). and he talked about the rack the slide thing.

i just said proper to give you a hard time. never said it was the only way to do things, it was something I saw as A way to clear a stoppage.

TapRackBang has to do with a stoppage (like a stovepipe, or a failure to extract), not with a round that goes off and with no powder. Was there not a safety officer there?

after all these years, I think we're finally on the same page. I still don't think riding the slide forward is the best method, but I will concede that is A method. :thumbs2:

the SO's in the group I shoot with stay pert near on top of the shooter. ah, well. glad he made it out okay, all things considered.

I think we've sufficiently killed this topic! hahaha :anamatedbanana

Maybe for you, it's just to give your guns to me, and I'll give you a baseball bat instead. No complicated buttons, latches, safeties, or slides on it. "rlol" :smilelol5: :rolll
