Drew, I think the wait will be as or more punishing than yours. With the delays, I figure that if I have my license in hand by Christmas time, I'll be lucky. In the meantime, I can improve my accuracy on the range. That's always fun to do. ;-)

Ouch! Is the wait that long? I figured 3 or 4 months at most, although they say 60 days...

Wullllll, due to time, tide, circumstance, and the wife(read between the lines), I won't be able to take the class until mid July....some people are waiting 4, 5, and in some instances I've seen 6 months. But hey! That's ok, I've waited all my life so far....6 months isn't that long to me(anymore). I am blessed with patience......it has to do with age, don't you know.

Got my CHL in Jan 2007. Actually, that is when I took the class, but it took a couple of months to get the card.

Hi d_s, and a warm welcome to ya! This is a great forum and a wealth of information is here at your fingertips. Not to mention the great people here on the forum. But ya gotta know, that rule #2 is to tells us what kind of guns you have(it's in the rule book ya know!)

Hey, how's the Mesquite Gun Show? I've never been since it's on the other side of the metroplex from me, but I see ads all the time. I used to set up at all the Ft.Worth shows, and Market Hall back in the days I was collecting, but never made it to the Mesquite show.

Is it worth the 30 mi. trip over there to walk the isles?

I like the mesquite show the best, it seems to be a good one to go to recently. There should be alot of bargains at the show, Market Hall was dead last week. I am glad to see things are returning to normal.

Hello from Southeast Texas!
I grew up around guns and hunting, and my husband and I have been CHL holders since Texas started issuing them. While I found I like a lot of different kinds of guns, my favorite is my Henry .22 Lever Action rifle with a 3-9X40 Simmons Prohunter scope. I really enjoy shooting it (a.k.a. it's FUN!), and that makes a huge difference. My husband bought a couple of shooting trees for .22s) and we've had fun "competing" with them. I've also been able to apply the practical side of guns to dealing with snakes on our ranch, so that's come in handy.

My work doesn't allow guns on the premises, so I don't get to carry to/from work, which is disappointing since I have a long drive. For places and times when I can conceal carry, I have a carry purse - Model 33 from MyGunpurses.com - that works well. Initially, I carried a Bersa Thunder .380 in it and am now transitioning to a Ruger LCP with a Crimson Trace Laser Sight. I'm also starting to experiment with various on-the-body holsters, and have found I like a belly band, where the LCP just "disappears", as it does in a pocket holster. We both hope we never have to use our guns in self defense, but we will be prepared in case we do and are happy that we still have this freedom. My husband is an NRA life member and I've just recently joined. We're also both TSRA members. We like to do things together and are looking forward to retirement hopefully soon. Our interest in guns is just one more great way to enjoy time together!

PS - Ladies, I'm signed up for the NRA's 2nd Annual Women's Wilderness Escape in September... will I see you there???

Welcome to the forum, Texas10X, we are glad to have you with us. I have a Henry .22 Lever Action rifle, also, however I do not have a scope on it. It is definitely a lot of fun to shoot (and not as expensive as the other calibers). I gave my daughter a Kel-Tec .380 that she carries in her purse. I have an LCP with the Crimson Trace laser and love it. I use it as a pocket gun and for back up.

I don't know if you have noticed it yet, but we have a whole section for the ladies here that I am sure you will enjoy.
