The best use for a .50 BMG in a zombie attack is if you can get them lined up 10 or 15 deep. Then you can really take advantage of the penetration of the .50 - putting down zombies a dozen at a time with each shot. Now. . . .if you can just figure out a way to get the zombies to participate in this efficiency study.austinrealtor wrote:so zombies are invading, the end of the world is near, and you're going to worry about the cost of ammunition?flb_78 wrote:because good 12 gauge buckshot shells are about .75 - 1.00 a piece. If I could carry it, I think a good semi-auto .50 BMG would be a great anti-zombie weapon. Just watch the besieged town from atop a hill a mile away and pick off the undead one-by-one. Sure the rounds are like $5 each, but $5 per zombie is not too much price to pay to rid the world of such a scurge.

Even 22 ammo is expensive now so I went to HEB and bought a few pounds of salt.

Re: Zombie Armory
Zombies are not slugs! Taken the head off is the ONLY way. I think a .22 would not do enough damage to stop the staggering threat. Yes it would bounce around but is that little pebble of a bullet really going to be enough to sever the head of an undead? I think not. I think a well placed 9mm or .380 might, but a .22 is a slim chance in my eyes. Bring on the black rifles and shot guns. You don't want it kinda stopped when all it takes is a transfer of bodily fluid and BAM!!! your infected. You want that thing DOWN. That or sit on a roof with a long range set up and some cases of ammo. But you start fairing something like that and you will get all of their attention. You need an acid moat or a bunch of wood chippers around your strong hold to keep them off the structure itself. They are not intelligent, just strength ins numbers. So find a way of neutralizing them in numbers. Think smarter not harder.boomerang wrote:Even 22 ammo is expensive now so I went to HEB and bought a few pounds of salt.

As the Alamo Drafthouse tells us before every movie,
you just have to "destroy the brain." A .22 LR would be just fine for that. Besides you'll have plenty of time for marksmanship and second shots. They tend to walk a little slow. If a cricket bat can put paid to them a nice Ruger .22 should do just fine.

Re: Zombie Armory
I always figured if you can shoot their eyes out with a 22 they won't see you swinging at `em with the macheté or claymore. Lots of rounds of most ammo can be pretty cumbersome. The zombies always seem to come in groups.RECIT wrote:Zombies are not slugs! Taken the head off is the ONLY way. I think a .22 would not do enough damage to stop the staggering threat. Re: Zombie Armory
So if .22 is the best anti-zombie round and the sheer numbers of zombies requires a large number of rounds on target, wouldn't THIS http://demigodllc.com/articles/gsg-5-mp5-in-22-lr/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; be the ultimate anti-zombie gun?

Re: Zombie Armory
My point is the same why you don't use a .22 for self defense. You don't want it kinda stopped. I want it to drop lice a sack of potatoes. Slow moving or not...a zombie needs to go down for the count b/c you know he brought a few friends with him. Do you want to HAVE to hit them just right with a .22 or blow it to bits and worry about the next one trying to gnaw your face off. Just my apocalyptic two cents.

Re: Zombie Armory
A good point that I was trying to make earlier in this thread (a few pages ago). But my opinions were over ruled by those who know considerably more about zombie combat than me. You have to listen to the people in the trenches on this kind of thing. And if our zombie fighting vets say .22 is the way to go, then gosh-darnit, I say so too.RECIT wrote:My point is the same why you don't use a .22 for self defense. You don't want it kinda stopped. those would be good for laying down supressing fire from fortified positions, but we all know from zombie movies that sooner or later the sheer numbers of the monsters will over run even the most well fortified position. so you need a lighter, squad-level weapon such as the GSG-5 for open combat. Plus some highly accurate sniper-type weapons - like a modified marksman level Ruger 10/22-based rifle with bull barrel, sniper-style stock, and long-range scope - to pick off zombies one by one from elevated positions.
If all else fails, call in an airstrike ... radio controlled planes dropping molotov cocktails and large fireworks should do the trick, right?

Re: Zombie Armory
I thought the way to stop zombies was just to hit stop on the DVD remote or change the channel? Did I miss something?
