I think we'll see the ammo shortage continue for quite some time still.

Beyond the urge to "stock up" (hoard in some cases), is the fact that hundreds of thousands of NEW firearms are being sold (back-ordered). Naturally, new gun sales equates to a need for ammo. Not much is available now....so it stands to reason that unless manufacturers step up production (they aren't) the shortage will continue until the market absorbs all it wants.

Yes, some common cartridges (mainly pistol) will eventually settle down some.....but I would expect to see certain rifle cartridges (especially .223/5.56) continue to be scarce for the next year or so. Many thousands of folks are on a 4-12 month waiting list for AR15 rifles/parts/variants right now.

Time will tell.....but my prediction is that prices will remain elevated and supply will be "spotty" through the end of this year if not longer.

I hope I am wrong.

Talked to the folks at Gun Emporium on FM2854 in Conroe today. They said the only shortage they've experienced is with .380. Everything else is pretty readily available.

Their back-counter ammo shelves seemed pretty well stocked, but I don't know what they have in reserves. I didn't buy as I'm using up a batch of that dirty stuff called Wolf, but they're the first place I've been in a couple months that actually had stocks of 45ACP & 9mm.

I've had an order in with Natchez for a month or so, no luck. The Webster Wal-mart is out out out.

I asked the department to order extra, but they said the manager doesn't believe they'll sell (CCI BB 45FMJ). I told them I would buy 20 boxes, but no look. I looked today and their shelves looked like the previous post.

What I can't figure out is why 30 carbine ammo is so scarce. I can see .223 although I have had any trouble finding that. But try to find 30 carbine ammo or components - it is real difficult.

If anyone is interested in keeping abreast of news stories relating to the ammo situation, you can sign up for Google alerts and specify a query term (e.g. "Ammunition Shortage") You will receive an email containing new stories that contain your search query, research for the lazy (or busy)...

Here is a decent article (non-biased) with a few quotes from a Remington and Winchester representatives.

http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs. ... 9903290322
“We're working overtime to produce ammo, but right now we cannot meet the demand,” said Linda Powell, spokeswoman for Remington
Winchester wrote:“Our operations are running 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Peters said of the plant, which employs 1,800 people. “Our team is literally working around the clock.”

Bass Pro Shop in San Antonio gets shipments in at 0600 hrs Wednesday and Sunday morning. The doors open at 0900 during the week and 1000 hrs Sundays. I was there at 0845 hrs on Wednesday and came away with 2 boxes .380 Hornaday PP, and 1 box Winchester .45. Today I got a bit more lucky in I was able to get a 200 pack of .223 (they had 12 boxes of 6 each 200 packs), 2 each .45 and 4 each .380 Golden Dot. $300 bucks. The day is young, little to no wind, great temperature outside....RANGE - here I come! Time for Sunday service :-) :fire

See ya at the Bullet Hole.

380 is the toughest to find. I bought a Lee reloading kit 6 months ago and last week ordered the dies. Guess I will start reloading some.
That is if the dies show up!
