Re: I went to the darkside.....
The Annoyed Man, thanks for taking the time to post the pics. I appreciate it.
My Dad's sidearm from WW2 got sold years ago. He used the $ to help with
law school expenses after the war. In later years he regretted selling it.
I enjoy seeing the old stuff. Thanks again.

Re: I went to the darkside.....
Help!
My wife has been fully into the vortex of 1911 lust. Not that I mind -- my next handgun will be a 1911 too, but she's got expensive taste! She really, really, really likes the Kimber Pro Carry II. All it took was 2 magazines through a Kimber Ultra Carry II and I knew by her grin that there was going to be no other style of pistol that would make her happy.
I'll be plenty happy with a more 'economical' model - even two! But she's seriously eyeing the top end. I had to go and tell her that since it's gonna be her gun, she gets to pick whatever she wants, and she'll get it.
Anybody wanna buy a couple of well trained kids? How about a dog? Need some plasma? Slightly used shoes? I need to have a serious garage sale!

OK... Black, and OD Green. That doubles the color choices right there! Amazing.ninemm wrote:Not quite true. The Annoyed Man wrote:... Glocks are like Model T Fords. You can have one in any color you want - as long as it is black. ...

I love and carry a Kimber, but if you think they are the "top end" of 1911 prices, DON'T show her any Les Baer or Nighthawk Custom pistols. Beautiful and functional, but very spendy. While I find that Kimbers indeed are somewhat expensive, they are not any more expensive than the 1911s of other premium pistol makers. For instance:UpTheIrons wrote:Help!

Kimber Stainless TLE II™ .45 ACP - $1,177.00
Sig Sauer 1911 Stainless - $1,170.00
Springfield 1911A1 Loaded Stainless - $1,057.00
Three full-sized stainless 1911s with roughly the same features, from three different manufacturers, all at around $1,100.00. The same kind of pistol - a full sized, stainless steel 1911 with match grade barrel - can be had from Taurus for $200-$300 less, but Kimbers are by no means the most expensive 1911s out there. . . . .and who pays MSRP anyway?

Re: I went to the darkside.....
Do most (or all) high end guns require 200 rounds or so of "break in"? Or is this actually a manufacturing weakness in the ability to control tolerances?
It reminds me of the people I know who have high end automobiles (BMW, AUDI, Mercedes, etc.). Seems they all have them in the shop numerous times to get them "right" whereas I've had a number of new Hondas, a Malibu (once), a Galant (once) and full size Chevy/GMC vans that seemed perfect to me. I did get three recalls on a 2006 Chevy van for things that were pretty silly (to me) and turned out to be checks only.

For the moment, I have been successful in keeping "Les Baer", "Wilson Combat" and "Nighthawk" out of our vocabulary. Hopefully it will stay that way. Of course, as she does more research on her own, that may change. The Annoyed Man wrote:I love and carry a Kimber, but if you think they are the "top end" of 1911 prices, DON'T show her any Les Baer or Nighthawk Custom pistols. Gently worn size 12 black dress shoes (I almost exlusively wear boots now) and two pairs of well-loved Justin Ropers (Black & Navy). Yours for the low, low price of $600 (OBO)! Think of them as 'vintage'!NTexas_V-Star wrote:UpTheIrons wrote:Help!

Re: I went to the darkside.....
You know you are in trouble when your wife handles another mans piece...
My wife shot Charles' Thunder Ranch Les Baer a few years ago...(Some of y'all remember )
The evil look and comment "I like this one!" spoke volumes...
That had the potential to hurt me in the pocketbook that year...It eventually cost me two Springfields...So I am sorta off the hook... sorta...

What is her email address? I will be happy to tell her how much I like my Les Baer! Right after that I will tell her about my favorite 1911 that my husband hand fit together with a good frame and bargain parts! The Baer is great but I can hit 8" steel at 200 yards with my "special" 1911. The moral of the story is that if the gun fits you and it works it is a good gun.UpTheIrons wrote:For the moment, I have been successful in keeping "Les Baer", "Wilson Combat" and "Nighthawk" out of our vocabulary.
