I've played the beer game a lot too. However that has to do with information flow in the supply chain and promotes vendor integration. I will agree that the mfg is probably going to defer orders that don't have as much revenue and fill the larger orders. Like I said I agree the mfg is behind. It's just that I believe that all the higher ordering will lead to overstock and lower prices down the road.

I'm right there with you. I have a few thousand rounds (< $100) of 22 in "inventory" but my centerfire plinking ammo is JIT now.

I've been waiting for an order of bullets from Berry's since the first of this month. Apparently, it's not just ammo that's in short supply?
HOORAY! The mailperson just delivered my handgun bullets from Berry's. Bring on the zombies! :fire

I found ammo to go out of Brenham, TX had plenty to choose from in pistol ammo. I bought 1k 9mm of Fiocchi brass for around 220 a case. They had other options for around walmart prices plus shipping though. The WWB in 9mm was 239 per 1k case and they had it in stock. Good luck and happy hunting. Most of the on-line suppliers have inventory in stock, it may not be what you normally buy or the price you normally pay, but the prices are close to in store pricing and they will ship it to your door. If you order from out of state the shipping usually offsets the tax you would have paid locally if the order is large enough.

My roommate and I went to GameStop to pick up Halo Wars at its midnight release yesterday. Since the line of people waiting outside was so short we decided to walk over to Wal-Mart and grab some 7mm ammo. Upon arriving at the gun section, we noticed 100rd winchester white boxes of .45 and .40 ammo. After hunting down someone to find the key for the case, we happily spent about $100 each, at 12:05 am. :thumbs2:

If it makes you feel any better, our bars close at 12 (1am on Saturdays).

Granted, they just passed legislation to keep them open til 2am, but that won't happen til the summer.

I had to go up to Arkansas over the week end on some family business. Went into a Walmart to check on ammo. Basicly the same story as here in Houston, almost no ammo. Really shotgun only.

My father-in-law knew the store manager and during a conversation I asked him what management was saying about the problems with ammo. He stated that last week he was told that Walmart was not cutting any further PO's for ammo until the manufactuers got all of their back orders cleaned up. He said that his store has PO's out there that are 3 months old. No new PO's was company wide, not just his store.

Based on this conversation, I do not believe that large sellers of ammo are receiving any special treatment from the producers. Nor is it a credit thing. It looks to me like the producers are simply overwhelmed with orders and at this time they are either not willing, or most likely not able to increase the output of their factories based on a short term burst of orders. If this level of demand lasts for any length of time, like several years, I am sure that they will do everything that they can to increase their production to catch up.

In the mean time, ammo will continue to be in short supply.

The Academy on Highway 6 in Sugarland today had a ton of Winchester White Box 100 Round Value Packs in .45 earlier today.

No 9mm or .40 though.

Also, plenty of brass 5.56 cases but at $500 per case of a thousand I just kept walking.

Just went by the WM in Plano on 75 and they had just received a shipment. Sales guy went out to the trailer and got me a few boxes of .45. They had 9MM and 38 Special too ( I had plenty though.)

However, they were basically out of .22,so had to go to Academy. Neither one had bulk 500 - 550 round packs. :grumble

I was in Austin yesterday so I had lunch at Salt Lick and then stopped by Cabela's in Buda. They had stacks of 525 round bulk Federal on sale.
(Cabela's, not Salt Lick. ;-) )

Walmart is hit and miss. But, if you check every few days, you can usually buy as much as you want.
