Ammo Shortage?

#1

Post by texasag93 »

I have been going by Wally World every couple of weeks and buying 100 to 200 rounds of .45 and a brick or two of .22. I skipped January as I was busy.

I went today and the shelves were VERY bare. They had .22, so I bought some. NO .45. No .40, No 9mm, 4 boxes of .357.

I am on a board that is based in Ohio and that is the norm in Ohio, but I have not seen the shelves this empty.

They make it look better by filling up the empty spaces with 12guage shells.

Is this going on state wide, or just here in Denton.

The Wally Worlds here in Wichita Falls are the same way, and, it's been that way for over a month.

Update: Yesterday(2-9-09), my closest local WalMart received a 7000rd shipment of WWB 9mm. I got to the store @ 10:00 a.m. and bought 1000rds...the remaining sold out before noon. They still have WWB .40 in 100rd boxes. No .45 available.

Shortage of handgun ammo is pretty much the norm in the Pineywoods too. Not only that but handgun bullets for reloading are mighty scarce to nonexistant also.

Woe is us :cryin .

Same situation at the New Braunfels Wally World. The sporting goods cashier said if I wanted any .40 or .45 that I needed to call in the morning and come to the store before noon. All the inventory they do actually get in usually gets sold before noon.

Same in the Wally Worlds in Kemah, League City and Webster.

22 and 357 are the only handgun-compatible calibers we've seen in the past two weeks.

Will have to hit the Pasadena Gun Show first thing Saturday morning, and cringe at the prices.

The clerk at the store in Denison told me last week that they were supposed to start receiving a larger supply. I've seen no proof of that yet. I was told there has been a small but steady supply (40's and 45's) at the Sherman store.

I went to the one in Lewisville off of 3040 last week and they had several boxes of blazer brass in .40 and .45. I bought the 12 boxes of .40 they had in the display, and they stated there was a case or more back in their "Vault". I was in there 2 days prior and the kid working said there was no .40 when in fact they had plenty, but he just did not know where it was.

It's not only ammo, it's also reloading components. Handgun bullets are as scarce as hen's teeth. I ordered some Berry 9mm and .45 acp bullets from the factory (no one else has any) and received an e-mail today saying the bullets should ship in 10 days.

I bought an XDm in 9mm Sunday at the Ft. Worth Cabela's. Their 9mm ammo shelf was completely barren except for 3 boxes of WWB. Needless to say, I made no ammo purchase that day.

Rifle ammo, especially the high speed pea shooter (.223) seems to be a bit scarce too.

I went to the Wally world in Flower Mound to see what they had.

8 boxes of .223 were received at 8 am and they were sold out when I left (11:00). :biggrinjester:

Was in the one by I-35 in Lewisville today. No 9mm or .22 bricks I was seeking. But, hey, they did have quite a bit of high dollar CCI 22 stuff - and birdshot. One of our members works at Bass Pro in Grapevine. He said today they are also having a tough time getting and keeping handgun ammo on the shelves.

I went to Bass Pro Shop in Katy on Sunday and found the handgun ammo shelves about 80% empty. I was at the Katy Academy at 99/I-10 Weds evening and it was even worse, and rifle ammo was also about 80% gone. On top of that, 1 of the handgun showcases was empty.

I got kinda of a spooky feeling seeing that.....
