"Woman fatally shoots intruder in her northeast Houston homeSecond suspect still on the loose
By Christine Dobbyn

(5/09/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - A woman in northeast Houston has turned the tables on an intruder overnight. Now he's dead, and she's answering questions from police.

It happened around 3am at a home on Bender near Kurt. Police say the woman was home with her three-year-old son when someone reportedly knocked on the door.

The woman asked the person to identify himself but he didn't answer. She told him to go away since she didn't know him. That's when two men apparently forced their way in the home.

The men were armed with a knife and a pellet gun. The homeowner struggled with the intruders, but managed to get to the kitchen, where she keeps her gun.

The woman shot one of the men. He was dead on the scene.

The second suspect took off in a car. Police believe they found that getaway ditched a short distance away, but the man is still on the run.

The woman is shaken up and bruised, but otherwise alright. The little boy was unhurt.

Police say it appears this is a case of self-defense, but it will be referred to the DA. "

You've got to be kidding me! A pellet gun!! I'm glad the woman is okay though. I guess you can say, "never bring a pellet gun to a real gun fight"

Chalk one up for the good gals (or good guys).

It's too bad the second suspect didn't stick around to get what he deserved.

A pellet gun and a knive...........wow.

At 3am in the morning she should have answered the door with the gun in her hand!

I really hope that the idiot who brought the pellet gun was the one found dead at the scene, and that he had no opportunity to reproduce before his demise.

It was nice of KTRK not to call the woman a vigilante.

ElGato, I have to agree with you. The person banging on my door at 3 in the morning must face the fact that they are inches from a 12 gauge. I will not answer the door unless someone identifies and proves that they are a member of my immediate family.

I agree that Houston is doing a great job of not putting up with this crud and doing what they can to take their city back! These stories are common lately....and they put a big smile on my face

Now that she has survived this encounter you can bet she will have the gun with her when someone suspicious knocks again.

Everyone who read's about something like this happening should take a lesson from it, but most won't and will still answer their door at 3am totally unprepared for whatever might be waiting for them.

She definitely came through under pressure. Good for her and her baby too.

The BG's are getting bolder and a lot more agressive. Seems like they're going for the kill before they go for the loot anymore.
Breaking into a home when the residents are there is proof in itself that the BG(s) either plan to or are willing to kill whomever is inside.

Like I stated in another thread, if some one comes to my door a 3AM, I'll be the third one to meet them. Those two German Shepherds are much quicker and noiser than I am when awoke. You can identify me as the one holding the Glock and NOT barking angrily.

When the hospital isn't busy and my wife comes home early (she works nights), she calls me to tell me that will be her coming in the door, so don't shoot!

I certainly wouldn't go to the door without a firearm at 3am.
