Glock 36
I recently added a Glock 36 to my arsenal for primary use as a CCW. I have been much impressed by it but I seem to have developed a problem with it: I had no failures of any kind for the first 300 rounds but have now begun to have FTE problems on the order of 1 per fifty rounds fired. Not horrible but enough to make me hesitant to use it for carry until I solve the problem.
Problems do not have a pattern - sometimes occurs in first magazine after cleaning somtimes not until I have fired 50 founds. Brand of ammunition seems to make no difference
I am dissapointed as I have never had a FTF or FTE in either of my other Glocks (17 & 19) in over 10K rounds.
Anyone else had or heard of this problem in a G36?

I have heard of this
The version I have heard of this problem was like this. Because of the 6 only magazine, owners of the G36 were taking a single round and inserting it in the barrel thru the ejection port, then inserting the magazine, so they have 7 rounds quick. Supposedly wears or breaks the ejector by doing it this way. Normal 'procedure' would be inserting a full magazine, rack/chamber a round, drop the magazine then add a round to top it off. Can happen on any Glock actually - supposedly just something about the way the round makes contact with the breech face and the ejector if the round is coming up from the magazine on the ramp as opposed to inserting a round thru the port.

As far as ammunition I have tried several brands since the problem arose. I am mostly using Winchester Whit Box 230 gr FMJ, this is exactly the same ammo that I utilized for the first 250 rds which were trouble free. Did not see anything that looked wrong with the magazine or extractor at least to my un-educated eyes.
I am the first owner of this firearm and have never loaded a round through the top, always used the loaded magazine then reload the 'extra' round into the mag and reinsert method.
I am thinking I will take this gun to the Pasadena show in two weeks and have TR Graham look at it. If it is a 'cheap' fix I would rather pay him to fix it then have the downtime and shipping costs of sending it to Glock. I was going to have him smooth out the trigger a little on it anyway.

I know no one wants to hear this, and either even fewer admit to it even being a possibility.... but I see a LOT of Glocks on a daily basis.
The main cause of malfunctions I see on Glocks s limp wristing. If you do not have a firm enough shooting grip the frame will move, takng energy from the slide.
Have someone else you know that has a good solid grip shoot a box of rounds thru it.

I thoght of that as a possible cause and do have somewhat arthritic and week wrists. The thing that makes me discount that as the cause is I put over 250 rds through this gun without a single failure before I had the first FTE problem.
I have also never had a problem with my G19 after several thousand rounds, is the G36 more prone to this then the G19? Could I be "limp wristing'" in anticipation of the greater recoil of the .45 over the 9mm?

It could be. Easy way to eliminate that is to let somone else go to town on a box of ammo. :)bauerdj wrote:txinvestigator

Re: G36
LOL Who is "they"? Glock, being a very popular and good selling firearm, has been the butt of many alleged complaints from the .40 kabooms to every other malfunction you can imagine.erik.mignault wrote:I have heard that the G36 is the only Glock that they have had problems with. I also heard the G36 is going to be discontinued.
The 36's are no more prone than any other Glock to any malfunction.
We are a Glock dealer and I have heard zilch about a discontinuation. I will call tomorrow and ask though.
FWIW, I don't yet own a Glock as they do not fit my hand well, so I have no real vested interest in defending them. I just care about facts. ;)

Went to the range today and tried the G36 again - same result 3 rounds out of 100 failure to extract. I tried to be very concious of limp wristing and then I later tried firing a magazine full doing everything possible to CAUSE a limp wristing problem. No FTE when exagerating the limp wristing so I really doubt it is that. Have not yet been able to match schedules with a shooter friend to have someone else try it. If I have not resolved the problem by next weekend I will probably take it to the Pasadena show and have a gunsmith who is usually there take a look at it. I am trying to avoid sending it for a 5-6 week vacation trip to Georgia.
Should it prove to be limp wristing I will probably have to find a new home for it and try something else.

About $100 to $150 off for LE depending on model, about $65 to $85 off for Military. Check http://www.justglocks.com I've never used these folks or know anything about them, but they do have a price list you can use for reference. They tell you who qualifies, but it looks like active LEO with a letter from your agency. I called about military discount once and State and National Guard, Reserves, Active Military qualify.bauerdj wrote:TXFire
Can you tell me who exactly qualifies for LE pricing and how much of a savings it is? If it is listed on a website maybe you could direct me there.
