Went to the local gunshow this past weekend, & heard dealers complaining that the NCIC system was down "several hours" on Sunday afternoon (April 2). Since this effectively limited them to selling only to CHL holders, there were thousands of dollars worth of sales lost.
Did any other shows have this problem?

NCIC system down?

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

I have seen this happen at local shows in the past...I know it is frustration for the dealer, but gives one more good reason for everyone to go out and get their state CHL! The less my name is transmitted over the air....the looser my foil hat stays.

Re: NCIC system down?
Actually NCIC is the National Crime Information Center, and it is not used by FFLs. It is restricted to Criminal Justice purposes and utilized by LE, courts, etc.quidni wrote:Went to the local gunshow this past weekend, & heard dealers complaining that the NCIC system was down "several hours" on Sunday afternoon (April 2). The FFLs use the NICS system. National Instant Crimnal Background Check System.
No gun sales would be effected by a system failure, only TRANSFERS would not be allowed to occur.
NICS was down nationwide.
