So, I am guessing that now would be a good time to be a Gun Dealer in D.C. ![Hurry :hurry:](./images/smilies/hurray.gif)

Re: Gun Dealers in DC
It's not clear there ARE any such dealers.
I cannot (so far) find any by Googling -- I suspect that there are none for the public.
Also, you must still REGISTER your firearm* but you cannot buy one out of state, and if you cannot buy one locally, Catch-22
*Mayor Fenty gave the police chief 21 days for "new regulations in accord with the decision." That doesn't mean they will be reasonable regulations.

Re: Gun Dealers in DC
I used to buy from Atlantic Guns in Rockville Maryland. They are a family-owned store that started in DC but subsequently moved to the suburbs due to the ban in the 70's. I've been waiting to hear their opinion on the ruling today. I assume they won't open a store there but you never know.

That court ruling was fine, but with revolver only is not right. And that was a good question on caliber limits.

Um, the DC mayor told the media "no automatic or semiautomatic" pistols.eric wrote:That court ruling was fine, but with revolver only is not right. And that was a good question on caliber limits.
That only leaves revolvers, single shots, or derringers.

Re: Gun Dealers in DC
I can see a DC-special, a semi-automatic looking gun but where you have to pull the slide back manually to load the round, or where the trigger pull does the same as a double action revolver, loads the round, sets the hammer and then fires. I dunno, I see some gunsmiths having fun with loading mechanisms, I know I would if I were a gunsmith

Re: Gun Dealers in DC
I may have found an FFL gun dealer in DC but you will never guess who it is:
Please swallow any liquids and remove all foreign objects from your mouth before proceeding.
If this doesn't cause you to laugh, then have someone check you for a pulse.

PS: There may be others but this is the ONLY ONE listed on http://www.gunbroker.com/User/FFLByState.asp for DC.

Josh Sugarmann, head of Violence Policy Center, has a Federal Firearm Dealer's license. The business address is VPC's headquarters in D.C.. Which, if I recollect DC law correctly, means VPC is exempt from the handgun ban they defend."

Re: Gun Dealers in DC
With the Court's strong language about handguns being the overwhelming choice for self-defense, any attempt to ban semi-autos would likely be struck down as well. Semi-autos are also the overwhelming choice for self-defense. I doubt that one would even get to the Supreme Court. The DC Court would take care of that one and the Supremes wouldn't hear it.anygunanywhere wrote:Um, the DC mayor told the media "no automatic or semiautomatic" pistols.eric wrote:That court ruling was fine, but with revolver only is not right. I agree. I was fully expecting a rash of stupid comments from the antis. I am pleased to see we were not disappointed.Charles L. Re: Gun Dealers in DC
... and such an interpretation is in total ignorance of the reasoning behind the overturning of the ban in the first place. The court ruled that handguns are the most popular home defense tool (for self-defense in general, most surely, but I think for HOME defense the shotgun is more popular as many riot guns are cheaper than a handgun) and thus a ban on handguns is illegal. Of the handgun class, the autoloader is by far the most common, so by the same reasoning, even if it is a reasonable restriction to only allow one handgun type, it should be autoloaders only. Mayor Fenty is playing with fire; he is saying outright that he's going to adopt as restrictive a policy as the literal interpretation of the ruling will allow, in order to protect as much of the law that wasnot specifically in question as he can (for instance, any gun which is capable of shooting more than 12 rounds, even if it cannot in its current configuration, is a "machine gun" and is banned; this is the meat of the argument for revolvers only as any autoloader can take an extended mag). That just might get him thrown out of office by executive order or an act of Congress for contempt, not just of any court, but the highest in the land.anygunanywhere wrote:Um, the DC mayor told the media "no automatic or semiautomatic" pistols.eric wrote:That court ruling was fine, but with revolver only is not right.
