I once read a tale (could have been here, but I'm not up to searching for it), where a man told about buying a shotgun in Wal Mart and being escorted all the way out until the manager could put it in the trunk of his car.

His marked patrol car, that is.

While he was in his full police uniform.

was at a store the other day, and got hassled about trying the trigger. I asked the lady to take off the trigger lock so I could try the trigger. she took it off, then I squeeze off a few dry fires, and she says to me, "You know, you're really not supposed to do that..."
I just looked at her and said Really? what's it do? she had no answer.

I do know if anyone ever does that to any of my guns, without asking, they won't get another chance. It is bad for some firing pins.

oh, I asked her, "Would you take the trigger-lock off so I may try out the trigger."

I don't remember reading that one... And I bet he didn't have a CHL so they had to call in the NICS check as well, right?

Edit: I posted before reading the entire thread. I merely echoed other forum member complaints.

The clerks behind the gun counter have told me on more than one occasion that if a gun needs to be returned to the manufacturer, that Academy will handle the transfer to and from at no expense to the customer. If I purchase another weapon at Academy, I'll see if they will put that in writing on the receipt. This store is the one off 1960 at Willowbrook Mall.

On another note, it really perturbs me that I must surrender my DL to handle a gun. Plus, they refuse to remove the heavy and bulky trigger lock. It's impossible to get a real feel for the gun in this manner.

And, if you purchase a gun from this retailer, they walk the gun to the door before they hand it over to you. This policy is silly to me because they are not 30.06 posted, and they hand ammunition over to you at the gun counter. I just can't see the logic.

They also have a policy of no returns on firearms for any reason. If you have a actual problem you have to go to the manufacturer. Buyers remorse, too bad, it's yours.

While it's annoying, I understand, or I would if my local Academy made me surrender my DL to handle a gun. It's to make sure people aren't going to run with their merchandise.

When we availed ourselves of the "ammo sale" at Sports Authority (formerly Oshman's) in Webster a couple of weeks ago, the salesman had to carry the ammo to the front counter for us.

'Courseif they took the lock off, that'd mean any gun you bought from them probably had been dry fired a couple thousand times by the time you got it...

You're only responsible if you were reckless, careless or negligent; you're not (legally) responsible for accidents (moral obligation is a different matter).

The old warning about "If you break it, consider it sold!" sounds good, but the case law disagrees.

This Academy 'policy' is either store rather than corporate policy, or its only selectively 'enforced'. I've not been asked for a DL before handling firearms in Austin stores.

I stated no fallacy. All common references to a government official asking to see your "papers please", is a reference to Nazi Germany.
Please offer up another supported example of such, and I'll gladly withdraw my statement.
Again, private business can do what it wants. Whether they choose to adopt policies seen in government is their decision. If they see benefit, why not?

On a personal note, I've never been asked for ID when handling one of their firearms.

I have asked to see very few guns in Academy due to their policies. I have been told they would not take the trigger lock off & let me check the 2 Baretta storms they had at the time. Told them wife wanted one & if I could not I would go somewhere else. This was right after they came out & were scarse.
They let me do it.
I have seen them ask one for his DL.
In our store here now all their knives are bubble packed. You cannot handle them before buying.
Since Academy moved in I have spent very little at WM whis is right across 59 from them. They are steadily forcing me back there for a few things.

BTW - Wife's Storm is the only gun I have bought at Academy due to their policies.
