Re: anyone have a polymer 45 ACP
I love 45s. I own and shoot, a Colt, Kimber, Para and a custom job.
So it was only natural that my wife wanted to get me a .45 for my 45th birthday.
I decided to try the S&W M&P in .45.
I compared it to the Springfield at the store and just liked the way the Smith felt in my hand.
We took it to the range and put about 150 rounds of fmj through it flawlessly.
No shoot in required with this gun.
I found it handled well and felt good in my hands. The recoil was very manageable.
The trigger is a little rough but I plan to smooth that up.
The acid test came when I tried it with the ammo I intend to carry with, the Winchester Ranger jhps.
With this ammo, I can put about 6 rounds through my Para P-13 before my hand starts to hurt.
I put 20 rounds through the S&W and felt no pain. To make sure the ammo wasn't light I put 10 through the Para and winced through the last 4. Another magazine went through the Smith with no pain.
I really like this gun. My only complaint is the 10 round capacity of the magazines. A double stack .45 should be able to do better. I think I remember Smith saying they would make highcap magazines for this gun eventually but have yet to see them.

Although a full-sized, my favorite pistol is still my Glock 21.

The WORD is that Glock is debuting the newest model.
The Glock Model 30 SF.
The Short Frame concept paired with the compact Model 30 for .45 ACP goodness spouting from a double-stack magazine.
Keep eyes peeled for photos and reviews.

Re: anyone have a polymer 45 ACP
I have a 1998, Glock Model 30 and usually carry it. I love it, it has been utterly reliable. I have not had a FTF on any type of ammo thus far. I use a Scherer grip extension on the end of each mag, I think this is a must have. I use a Pachmayr rubber sleeve on the grip as well. There may be some that extend the mag capacity, but mine does not. I have used the 30 in almost all of my tactical pistol training. The only drawbacks are that it is chunky on your hip, I carry IWB at 3:30- 4:00. It isn't uncomfortable but not as comfy as my full size 1911. The gun is somewhat punishing in my opinion on your hands. A 300-400 round day of training beats on you in my opinion. That is true of any handgun I think, but moreso with this gun in my experience. I have Meprolight low light sights, which have now burned out after 9 years and I need to get them replaced. It is simple to strip and maintain. I like it more and more every day. I want an Ed Brown for carry, but cannot afford one yet. When I eventually get one it will be a tough task to replace this 30.

Re: anyone have a polymer 45 ACP
I've got a Taurus PT145 Millenium Pro. It shoots fine, no problems except for "limp wristing" with one hand only. I've put around 500 rds. through it. I have read about people having reliabilty problems. The major one being the recoil spring poping out of the front of the slide rendering the gun inoperable.
I wish I had spent the extra money an bought a Glock 30.
But I like small & fast, so I carry mostly 357SIG caliber guns. Glock 33 is the favorite.
I bought an all steel EAA Witness compact 45 acp. It is 'easier' to shoot than the Taurus PT145 because it is heavy.
I carry the PT145 sometimes as a BUG it's light enough. The Witness, I would never carry! Too heavy!
Hope you find one you like, OE

Re: anyone have a polymer 45 ACP
I have an H&K USP Compact, which is a polymer gun. Mine is in .40 S&W, but it is available in .45 ACP. The .45 is only the tiniest bit bigger than the .40, but no so much that you'd notice. Of course, you sacrifice a 12 round capacity for an 8 round capacity.
The USP design is dead nuts reliable. They are bullet proof, and will digest pretty much any kind of cartridge. I've never experience one single jam with mine, and accuracy is well within acceptable limits.
OTH, they are a bit pricey.

I have a Kimber BP Ten II and it shoots great. It looks bulky but I carry IWB no problem. I do like the 14 rds of .45 on tap. I also have an HK USP .45 which is a perfect shooter but huge for CCW. Other than those all my other .45s are metal. If you are in Houston near Friendswood i can let you try it out.Texasdoc wrote:I am thinking of getting a Kimber Pro Ten BP as a carry gun I like the idea of the 13 round mags and its still a 1911 format , or is the XD's a better format. I am looking for anyone that owns one. I need to know how well they work .

Re: anyone have a polymer 45 ACP
I have an XD45 and a Kahr P-45. Both are great shooters. The XD is a bit blocky for a carry gun, but is great for home defense or to carry in a vehicle, and holds 14 rounds. I have fired approximately 2000 rounds of every kind of cheap ammo through it, without a single belch. It is very accurate, by self-defense standards.
The Kahr P-45 is my main carry gun. It is easy to carry and conceal with a IWB holster, or even in a large pocket. Mine has night sights, which I like a lot, and is very accurate. On a good day, I can shoot it almost as well as I shoot the longer barreled XD45.
I have not held one in my hand, but I would imagine that a polymer framed 1911, in Commander length barrel, would work well for a carry gun, with its thin profile.

I know most yall are talking double stack but I love my Ruger P345. I own two 1911's (Springfield and Kimber) and a XD45 (which I really like them all) but my favorite is the P345.
