Check above as well for me - I carry a P89 and I am pretty sure they are the same dimensions - with the P89 actually being heavier due to the metal frame instead of the polymer for the 97. I have an IWB holster for it, but it never gets used - maybe a different one would make it more comfortable, but I usually go with a relatively inexpensive Bianchi OWB holster with a vest or jacket as a cover garment.

Yes, it happens to be what I've got that's suitable for carry. I've always been a rifle collector, so I only have three pistols: the P97DC, a Ruger "Standard" .22 Auto, and my wife's East German Makarov. The Mak is a lot more compact, but I don't have a good holster for it. And despite the size, it's a heavy little bugger! Not to mention that it's pristine, I got it for a steal, and I don't want to risk the finish by carrying it regularly.

I carry OWB in a Fobus paddle at 3:00, with a cover shirt or jacket. Normal attire is jeans, tee, and a camp or club shirt for cover. I'm 5'10", 230 pounds; broad shoulders make concealment easier.

I went with the "Eight is enough" theory for a while, then picked up a Fobus paddle double mag carrier. I find that the extra weight at 9:00 helps balance the pistol's weight on the opposite side, so I don't have to hitch my pants as often. Even with a good belt, you're going to be hitching your pants now and then when you carry a pistol that weighs 31 ounces empty. Speaking of that, a good belt is essential! I'm thinking of adding suspenders to my wardrobe, too.

Carrying full-size isn't that tough if you don't need deep concealment. My same setup works well in a suit, too.

When I'm on an armed post at work, my issue pistol is a P89DAO with 5 magazines, in an Uncle Mike's retention holster. That sure beats the clapped-out S&W 10-13s we used to carry!

KB, If you add suspenders to your wardrobe you will love them. My saying to people that I introduce to 24-7 is that Suspenders are the best friend concealed carry has. I have worn them all my life so when I started carrying it was natural. I get mine at the Army Navy store. $10.00. They are all elastic. That is a must. Don't let anyone talk you into the ones that are only elastic in the back. Get them a full 1.5 inch wide. Manny colors to choose from. You will not have to hitch near as much as you do now. You can leave your belt looser too. That is a great plus if you carry in a leather holster as well as not being tight on you all the time. I carry Kimber Compac IWB at 3:30. 2-10 rd Wilson combat mags, 4 oz of OC, & my cell phone on the weak side. Never have any problem w/ sag. Wear them under your cover shirt. They never show. Since I wore them all my life, the biggest problem I had when I started to carry is that people asked me where they were.

This is no flame. With that quality weapon & a holster to match what is the thought process that leads to that ammo? It cannot be expense.

Ahhhh. Must use the lawyer word - again. It "depends".

Minimum: key ring, wallet, S&W 340 (15 ounces loaded) or Kahr PM-9 (19.4 ounces loaded), cell phone, mini-Spyderco. Commonly included: Bianchi speedstrip with 5 rounds of .38+Ps and 1 CCI .38 shot load, Key Defender OC spray. (Reloads and/or pump shotguns typically not far away.)

"Elevated risk" days: All of the above and/or Glock 29. 2-ounce Fox OC.

"High risk" days: I try not to do those anymore. Since roughly the age of 40, the brain seems to have gotten bigger and the balls smaller. So yea, a lighter load.

Good question. I really dont have a great answer, except that I just have not put in the time to get some carry ammo and shoot enough of it to feel comfortable with it.

But here is the good news- I will try to order some 'good stuff' within the next month. Hmmmm, now if I could make up my mind...rangerTs....goldensabers....golddots.... :)

I would put my money on the gold dot....I have seen them expand and stay together on a very consistant basis. There are a great deal of choices...just my opinion based on the bullets I have seen in action.

I am probably gonna go that way...I have bought gold dots for my G17 and no complaints
