Luckily an off duty cop happened to be nearby. Note that he was "hailed as a hero" for shooting the crazed perp.

Makes you wonder why New Yorkers can't seem to connect the dots.

I don't want to sound to harsh but, how can a man watch someone being stabbed and do nothing? Are they so cowardly? If that was done in my small town the guy would be lucky to make it to the hospital alive with or without a LEO or CHL holder around.

40+ years of conditioning to do nothing, call 911, let the police handle it. Pretty much why everybody did nothing on 9-11.

Cop only fired one round too, equally amazing.

We've become very comfortable contracting out our safety to others. Occasionally, the hidden cost for that comfort is realized in a very personal way.

The spontanious criminal assault is a hell of a thing to get caught up in.

Some notes from a friend on this article.

1) Will you step up when the test comes for you ???
Note the witnesses who observed but didn't intervene.
Can you live with yourself after that ???

2)Will you be armed to handle it ???

3)CCW !!!!

4)Finish the fight.
Note that it still took several LEO's to restrain the badguy after he had been shot once
Assume you wont have this luxury.
If they need to be shot, then they need to be shot until they dont need to be shot.

5)CCW-everyday. No exceptions. No excuses.
You dont know when or where the test will come.
If you did, you would avoid that place.

6)CCW !!!

7)REPS-REPS-REPS !!!!!
Make yourself a hard target in appearance and in function.
The most important of the 2-------function

Well, this didn't happen on the street in Dallas. It happened in NYC, where the libs have made sure that you can't carry mace or a knife or anything else to protect yourself.

So there you are watching an old woman being stabbed and you have no weapon and there is a butcher knife wielding maniac there, on god knows what kind of drugs. Yeah, you just go up and throttle the guy or kick him hard and he drops to the ground as in Bruce Willis movies.

Seriously, when you are allowed nothing to defend yourself or others with...what do you do? This is the point...the criminal will ALWAYS find a way to kill people. The common citizen can only rely on the police to defend them, which we all know they can't always be right there watching. I mean, I guess I would grab anything...a chair, a board, a clock radio...whatever is laying around and try to hit the guy with it. Obviously, if you were a CHL holder and this happened in Dallas you would shoot the guy. I certainly would.

This is what happens when the libs have control. The nutjobs, crackheads and maniacs rule the roost. They always seem to find a way to get weapons, even in "gun free" England, where I recently saw a story about a freeway shooting. Gun free is a myth perpetuated by hippies and tyrants.

Draw, Fire and keep firing till he stops stabbing and falls to the ground. reload and call 911. Keep shooting while talking to 911 if he gets back up. I will deal with the legal stuff when it comes.

That's not the case, but they require registration.

Obviously, if you come upon a person repeatedly plunging a knife into another person who is laid out on the ground, the appropriate response would be to shoot to stop the attack.

That's what the off duty transit cop did, for which he is being hailed (correctly) as a hero.

One would think that an incident like this would be instructive to the residents and public officials of NYC. But I'm sure there is little chance of that.

I'd heard that you can't have it at all. Registering for pepper spray sounds ridiculous. It's not even lethal. Yeah, it can be used for nefarious purposes, but so can that illegal gun that so many criminals seem to get with no problem!

Yep.

I sure wouldn't want to try to restrain that BG if he still had those stolen knives nearby.

In fact, unless I was concerned about getting a clear shot, I don't think I would have waited to shoot the BG... as he was in the process of stabbing a woman to death... No time to waste.

But all and all the officer did well. He stopped the threat and saved that lady's life.
