Had a student today firing a HiPoint JHP .45. First series went fine then he had a failure to load. I called a cease fire and we looked at the firearm. I swear that it looked like the case had stuck in the chamber and the seat had been ripped off. I loaned him my ATI 1911 to finish. We completed the course and set down to look at the firearm. Below is a view of the chamber. He said he had at least 300 rounds through this firearm.
For the life of me I could not understand what I was seeing. The edge was so clean I don't know how it could be the seat ripping off. Maybe the case had a cut around the base that wasn't noticed? Then I looked down the barrel. Now I was entirely bamboozled.
Yes. That's the primer you're seeing. Somehow this case did a 180 and got shoved into the chamber by the next round.
The ammo was Federal ball. Fed in my 1911 without any problem.
