Have M1, AR10 - Bad to want M1A?

On a recent trip I spotted an M1A in an LGS. I didn't get it, but I think I might have been bitten by the M1A bug or at least gotten a nibble. I'm not sure exactly which model, but it was all wood furniture except for the top fore end piece, IIRC.

The question is, since I have an M1 Garand and a very nice custom AR-10 is it wrong to also desire an M1A?

I think I'll probably stick to the <$2k price range. Does that mean I'll be limited to the Standard and Loaded models? After poking around a few old threads, I don't think I would be disappointed with a Loaded model. Unfortunately, I think a Scout or Socom might be a little out of my range. Well, surprise surprise, I just poked around and noticed a few black socom models for around $1700. That would be cool. Is that common?

I'm lucky enough to have an M1 and an M1A, they are very similar, yet very different. Love them both.

I won't be trudging through the jungle with it and there aren't many others on my WISH list. I really don't even have a wish list, but rather a couple things that have peaked my interest. I recently, last May, got my first real 1911 in .45. I'm probably satisfied in that area until I win the lottery because I'd like something from the 1930-1945 or maybe earlier time frame, but I'll have to begin gambling in that before I can win it.

I've been perusing through Springfield's website checking out all the various models of the M1A and my head is spinning. I'm not certain, but I don't think I'd like any of the pistol grip versions. The looks of the wood or synthetics of the same style are what appeal to me more. Since it is not a super precision weapon I don't think I'd be interested in any of the higher end versions. That's why I'm mildly interested in a 6.5 Creedmore or maybe one of the Tikka's like Beiruty has.

I had an opportunity to shoot one on full auto with a bipod and found it most painful...

The M14/M1A is a tremendous rifle. Get one, and then get an M1 Carbine and life will be good.

It's never a bad thing to want another firearm, unless it's a Jennings/Bryco/Jiminez. Even though they make interesting paperweights.

I lugged and M14 all over the mountains of Korea back in the early '60's as an Infantryman. No desire to revisit that experience, as my back and feet still hurt a half century later I do own a couple of M1 Carbines though.
