Re: Multitool suggestions
I have been a Gerber multi tool lover since it's inception, early 90's? I always loved them because I could have a fish in my left hand, reach down and get out my Gerber and flick it open with my right hand. Did not have to use 2 hands to deploy the pliers. I buy a new one every couple of years. Maybe there are other models that flick open now, but back when I developed my brand loyalty there was just the leatherman.

Re: Multitool suggestions
I personally love SOG's multi tool. Their PowerLock series are awesome. I love their compound leverage, too.

Look into a Gerber Shard as well. Is a keychain thing, tiny nail puller/pry bar, bottle opener, flat/phillips screw drivers. The best surprise Christmas present I've gotten.

For pocket carry check out the Gerber Dime. I have several multi-tools, including the Dime. The Dime is in my pocket everyday.
+1 on the Gerber Shard too. Have one of those on keychain.

It's a full size multitool, but it can be carried in a pocket. I just carry it on my belt. If you want a smaller one, I would look at the sidekick, or maybe a skeletool.

Re: Multitool suggestions
I have the Champion, which came with its own nice embossed leather holster. Here's the list of tools:bmwrdr wrote:Victorinox SwissTool for me since many years and it still holds up.
http://bestmulti-tool.com/victorinox-sw ... ol-review/
- large blade (2.5")
- small blade
- can opener with small screwdriver
- bottle opener with large screwdriver and wire stripper
- scissors
- pliers with wire cutter and wire crimper
- wood saw
- fish scaler with hook disgorger and ruler
- magnifying glass
- corkscrew
- metal saw with metal file
- nail file and nail cleaner
- reamer with sewing eye
- Phillips screwdriver
- fine screwdriver
- mini screwdriver (for eyeglass repair)
- a hook
- wood chisel
- ballpoint pen
- straight pin
- toothpick
- tweezers
- key ring
I've had it longer than all but one of my knives. I bought it back around 1980, so it's almost 40 years old now, and still looks in excellent condition, as does the holster. Better yet, I think I paid within a few dollars for it back then of the price that REI is charging for it today, so they remain a very good value.......although around $80 for a knife in 1980 was a lot of money.
The thing is, I tend to think of it as a "knife" and not a "multi-tool". I don't EDC it, but I still occasionally carry it, and I always take it with me whenever I go camping.......which is less and less these days.

This is the knife I carried every day when I was younger. I still have it and should probably at least throw it in my glove box. I think it has all the tools you want, with very few besides. It served me well for many years. It's also well within your price range.
For something small, someone mentioned the Gerber Dime. I have one of those as well, and have been really impressed with how useful it is considering how small it is. Hope this helps.

Re: Multitool suggestions
I have had a Swiss Army knife that is similar to the champion but with no pliers or the mini screw driver. I have never carried it but it was always on the desk in my room as a kid when I first got it and now has been in the living room in a drawer of every place I have lived. It is quite handy.
I don't see anything the same as it on the website currently but it was in the 50 dollar range. I still remember when my god mother bought it for me as a birthday present it was the first new knife I had ever gotten. I am thinking now I should tell her I still have it and use it often after about 20 years of owning it.

Re: Multitool suggestions
I have carried a multi-tool most of my adult life. I was carrying a Leatherman Wave for quite a number of years. I loved it. Great quality and I got a lot of good service out of it, until I stupidly left it in a hotel room. I replaced it with a SOG power assist which is what I have been carrying for about the last three years. The SOG is good, but I prefer the leatherman. The SOG had a metal cover that snapped closed over the tools, which constantly popped off. I just removed it all together. Because it is a power assist, it also has slide locks to keep the blades from popping open, which are a little annoying. After 3 years I still find myself fussing around with the locks, which is really more of an indictment of me than the knife. Don't get me wrong, the SOG is a good tool, but if I could trade it for my old Leatherman, I would.
