New Gun Store- Dangerous Display
I am not going to put the name of the store our there, but I visited a new local gun store over the weekend and I have to say I was shocked at how they are displaying handguns.
Instead of just having the guns in a glass case, they have guns openly displayed on different island counters. The guns are wired to the display. Each island is a different caliber, which makes for a really nice display.
Here is what gets me. None of the guns had trigger locks on them. Although I safety checked each one before I touched in, I can't imagine everyone is going to be the careful. Seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

There are several places in Houston that do the same, but it's pretty much standard operating procedure to remove the firing pins for the displayed firearms.
If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

So, like a gun show but with only 1/8th the amount of guns?
Casing them won't stop someone from being dumb.

Like said before, firing pins are probably removed.

Sure. Almost all modern revolvers have floating firing pins.

You'd rather have guns set up where you can't dry fire them?

Re: New Gun Store- Dangerous Display
I don't see what the concern is.
Every gun show I've been to had the same set up. And the crowds are a LOT worse there than at a gun shop. One benefit is that you can fondle which gun you like without the salesman being right there breathing down your neck.

Ok so I get the concern. Rule #1 of firearm safety - treat every weapon as if it were loaded. This applies 99% of the time, but there are times where you must verify the weapon is unloaded and not a threat in order to clean/disassemble, dry fire, etc.
However assuming these guns never have ammunition loaded into them (being display models probably never will) not seeing the problem here ?

I'll jump in here.
The place is called Defender Outdoors, and the firing pins are either removed, or filed down. I stopped by and talked to Will and he said they were having that done before they put them out last week.
They aren't stupid.

That is good to hear.
Both that they aren't stupid and that they have removed or filed down the firing pins.
