The Greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude"

Thought for the Day

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the
Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months and a total of 2112
deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in
Washington D.C. (among others) is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 34% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington D.C.

Bearing in mind my classes from years ago in statistical analysis that proved to my satisfaction that you can make numbers say anything you want them to if you are given sufficient motivation............
Even so, what a hoot.
And what a great idea.

Good job sensei, I have used this many times. I have changed the closing sentence just a little in the last few months. I tell them an unarmed citizen is more likely to be murdered in WDC than a combat soldier in the "war zone." I remind them that a female in WDC is more than 10 times as likely to be robbed, or raped than killed. In the city with the most stringent gun control females are are 300 times more likely to be robbed, raped, or killed than a female soldier in the war zone. That really gets some folks listening to a pro CCW message. Wish we could get a better response on the East coast.

As much as I agree with the sentiment of the original post, I think the math may be a little misleading. The military death rate is 60 per 100,000 per month. I think that the Washington D.C. number is probably per year.
