14 Murders in Houston over the Thanksgiving Holidays

#1

Post by CaptDave »

That was going to be the topic title, until this morning when the news made it 15 for the "Holiday Season Morning Murder Count" broadcast every morning on the Houston local news channels, which I'm sure a lot of you view as well.

Unbelievable. Included several Home Invasions.

Who wouldn't want to get their CHL, and take their personal safety seriously?

And, -while I'm on the subject- I think we're probably going to see more shopping mall "incidents" like the one in Tacoma, due to the season as well as the "copycat" factor.

Keep your doors locked and your pistol cocked and locked. Of course, if somebody comes in my house I'll grab the 870 first if it's close enough. It's easier to clean than the Kimber.

This holiday season I am doing all my Christmas shopping online. Most places will even gift wrap and leave the prices off of the invoice for you.
Santa is drop shipping this year. 8)

Why expose yourself to unsafe situations unnecessarily? Let's see, we've got yappy teens, cell phone junkies, door dings, pick pockets, and overpriced bobbles.

The Houston Police Chief was at our civic center meeting just before the Thanksgiving weekend...

He kept going on about community involvement and other blah blah blah stuff...

When it came to police response times in our area and he opened up for questions...I just had to ask...You had to be there for the reaction and answer...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Stevie-D in his best FM radio voice)

"Chief, would your recommendation for the citizens in this community while waiting for Law Enforcement to respond to our homes and businesses (in cases of imminent criminal intent and danger), should we be encouraged to aquire and maintain some form of proficiency with firearms to defend ourselves and our families, just in case of some unforseen delay in those responses?"

(Chief)

"I recommend that citizens do not take the law into thier own hands. And that our department is always looking to improve our responses and our means to prevent criminal activity by encouraging its citizens to get involved in watch programs and preventative programs for the youth in high-risk communities."

(Stevie-D)

"Well thank you Chief, that was not exactly what I was asking about. But thank you for your comments and your opinion."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know why I put myself up for such abuse...

My nieghbors sure did enjoy it...

If he won't answer the Q's you ask him then why do they think we have to answer their Q's.

This is insane! Just now I heard from a co-worker that some lady got robbed at her driveway. Evidently, they followed her after she walked out of the store with a X-Box 360. The holidays has brought out the good in a lot of people, but also the bad. That's a shame! :(

I know...It was a "loaded question", with the expectation of the answer given...

I was just testing to see if the waters had changed temperature...

HPD chief

This chief is a consummate politician. He has thus far pulled some pretty egregious stunts that were (in my opinion) testing the waters for some infringements on rights of citizens. He appears (again, in my opinion) to be pushing the envelope in some areas on behalf of the liberals in city government.
As a side note, please take notice of the fact that he does not seem to permit pictures of himself except close-up or behind a podium.
I think he may be shaped like me. Poor guy.

Now how can I resist this one...hmmmmm...Nope...I failed the test...

His buttocks fits most comfortably in anything Mattress Mac can put on his trucks "TODAY!"...

I've seen him up close...And not that I was looking at his...(not going there)

Now I would not go so far as to say you fit that mold my friend...

You know this reminds me of how the authorities were saying there is 'no increase in crime/no crime wave' after we got all kinds of NOLA people comming over here.

And now, surprise, surprise, could this be a 'crime wave'?

And now we're hearing on the radio (Chris Baker talk radio -yea, I was flipping between Hannity and CB on the drive home today...) about how police are not receiving calls from dispatch in a timely manner: as in anywhere from 1.5 hrs to 12 hours  according to a spokesman.

And these are serious crimes involved like burglary, assault, sexual assault, shootings, etc....

The question was along the lines of "Do you feel safe in Houston (or more safe than before...) And how do you feel about the HPD not being able to respond in a timely manner, etc....

My response would be: I feel safe but only because Ihave chosen to take my personal safety and that of my families very seriously, including getting a CHL and getting trained by some of the best in the business when it comes defensive pistol work. And still do.

I would also add that you cannot depend on the police to be there for you when you need them in a BIG WAY. Nothing against the HPD or any other P.D. It's just the truth.

Some people -who don't believe as I do, say "I'll just call 911 and lock the bedroom door and stay in there until the cops come". Well, what if that doesn't work? What if the cops are all busy dealing with other problems while your particular problem (the bad guy) is gaining entrance through your bedroom door? I have to believe that even the most anti-gun, bullet hater would give anything they owned to have 8 rounds of 12 gauge persuasion tucked into an 870 or 1100 or "insert your favorite firearm here" when the a problem arises.

I know what I'll do. I'll do my best to protect "me and mine" whether I'm at home, in the car or on the street (or mall or where-ever), until the good guys get there, thank you very much.

That CRAP about taking the law into their own hands ...
I just don't see how that commie-liberal comment has anything to do with self defense. It's just more political garbage spewing from the mouths of liberal scumbags !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh, I feel better now, sorry about the rant (but not much)
:)

Has anyone become a police chief who isn't a politician? I thought that was part of the job description.
