We have added many new members to our "family" here at TexasCHLforum in the last few weeks and we are happy they have joined us! As most folks know, the entire TexasCHLforum community has done a great job creating a unique atmosphere that encourages open discussion of issues without personal attacks and vulgar language that unfortunately plagues many otherwise great forums.

The vast majority of our new members are right at home here and we get quite a few PM's from people expressing their appreciation for the "10 year old daughter rule" as well as the civility of the forum. Unfortunately, we are also experiencing an increase in inappropriate posts. This is happening in spite of efforts to make sure new members are aware of the forum rules. In addition to the entire Mission Statement, an abbreviated notice of the "10 year old daughter rule" appears in the post that contains the VIP Registration Code. Each new member also receives a welcoming PM from me that not only expresses our appreciation for joining, but also pointing out the "10 year old daughter rule" and asking people to review the Mission Statement.

Not only are we concerned about the increasing number of inappropriate posts, the PM's we get from some members who received warnings about edited posts is not encouraging. Again, these problems are being created by a very small percentage of our newer members. Nevertheless, we would like to encourage folks to be sure they understand the Mission Statement, the "10 year old daughter rule" and our commitment maintain the great atmosphere the members have created here at TexasCHLforum. We have been very lenient in the manner we approach inappropriate posts by new members, but that may well be changing if things don't improve dramatically.

Reviewed & agree. Thank you Charles. Your 10yr old daughter rule is why I am here. 'Coarse I told you that in my 1st PM to you after signing on.

The 10 year old daughter rule is not a harsh one. I would be all for giving the boot to anyone who offends after a warning or pm's back with something rude after the first warning. It may not be their fault they were born a bonehead but that does not mean we have to put up with them.

Keep up the great work Charles, I support your rules!!!!!

Perhaps one should consider a 5 year old, as I think about, there's a lot I would have no problems saying or typing around a modern 10 year old, that I would not use around a 5 year old. The internet, TV and all that chatting & tx-ing have broadened the 10 year old vocabulary.

I completely support this. It is a very good idea for some places on the internet to maintain a high standard of civility, which would contrast with most internet communities. I think this is especially true in our case since we have a high degree of responsibility in Texas society and should be the ones setting the example.

I wholeheartedly agree the 10 year old daughter rule makes this site much more civil. My other favorite site is Stoppingpower and they have similar rules except they do not allow even substituting %@#$# for profanity.

I believe it was Will Rogers who said, "Profanity is a weak mind trying to express itself forcefully." Besides Charles, it's your house your rules.

we don't allow profanity substition like that here either.

I never heard that, but I like it. It's similar to one of my personal mantras. When someone expresses disbelief that I (very!) rarely drink coffee, I tell them that caffeine is like profanity: it's most effective when you save it until you really need it.

Sorry, if slightly off the topic, but as a person who tends toward being a loaner, I'm often amazed that people either are greatly bothered by rudeness and profanity or just don’t seem to care at all. I also notice it tends to run along family lines, it's almost as though people learn to despise profanity, or to use it. Thank about it, if any one "care'd to use profanity" they would be posting objections to the rule, but there are people who "care not to use" and they post support.

Just an observation, the rule doesn’t bother me.

I am not for sure if I understand you 100%, but we have those who use profanity and who disagree that is the reason Mr. Cotton has posted numerous threads about conduct. It amazes me that people cannot follow the rules. The old fashion statement "get right or get out" applies. Although that may seem harsh and no one would ever say that, but I think it should be understood by all of us. I use two forums daily. I have used some others and I have chosen to completely avoid the Cult P7 because of nudity. I posted the objection, left, and I have not been back. I am sure they do not miss me, but I dead sure do not miss the smut. I am shocked at the degradation of our society.
