RSS feed for new topics?

#1

Post by texas297 »

Morning all.

Several boards that I read publish an RSS feed for all new topics that appear on the board.

Any chance of that being implemented here on this site? Is it even possible with this forum software?

Not a big deal to me just checking on the availability.

Thanks
David

I've looked at the MODS offered at phpbb and there are a couple for RSS feeds. There is a problem for me because 1) it's a fairly substantial MOD for a rookie like me; and 2) it won't work on Ver. 3.0 that should be out in the not-to-distant-future. It would be nice though, so I may poke around more this weekend. Since I took the forum portion of TexasIDPA.com off-line, it gives me a great test bed to play with without putting TexasCHLforum at risk.

How would an RSS feed work on a bulletin board?

Chas.

Charles,

Thanks for the reply.

The RSS feed on a BB works much like a RSS feed on Blogs. Any time a new post is generated an item is added to the RSS feed.

Here is an example of a feed that I get from another board I read:

http://www.howardforums.com/external.ph ... rumids=337

HTH and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I can see myself coping with that much volume for about an hour!

Charles,

Any chance of revisiting this now that your phpbb3 is up? I see the SmartFeed mod for v3 is in the works, and perhaps others.

As David mentioned, I'd be willing to help as well when the time is right.

Happy New Year, all!

I have been looking at mods for Ver. 3.0 and there are at least 2 or 3 in the works. I plan to add one of them at some point, but I'm not sure when I can get to it. If it's a relatively easy mod, then I won't have a problem with it. I'll also test it on the forum at TexasIDPA.com, since that board has very little activity. If I mess something up, I'd rather it be over there!
