Suggestion on "Enforcing" the Forum Rules

I have, on occasion, observed minor rule violations (aside from the ones I've committed myself
) on this forum.
In those instances, I have sent the violator a polite PM with a quote of the specific rule, stated that I was sure it was unintentional and wanted to alert them so they could edit their post before a moderator has to step in and/or some other member gets offended.
I actually had another member of this forum send me such a notification on one of my posts early on when I thought it was fair game to publicly call a troll "a troll" here instead of letting the moderators handle it. I appreciated that member alerting me to the rule I'd broken privately so I could fix it and avoid a trip to the woodshed.
I find this works much better than re-quoting their offense in another post and calling them on it in front of everyone. That usurps the moderators job, plus it creates a post that the original violator is unable to edit or correct.
For blatant violations I just use the little report post feature (!).
