Virus Attacks on Gun Related Sites

There seems to be a rash of virus/malware attacks on gun related sites in the last few weeks. A couple of weeks ago we (I'm an admin) got hit at the KT Range dot com site and it's been a nightmare cleaning up. Yesterday (06/23) the Defensive Carry dot com site was hit and is currently causing a real mess, and folks there said that GlockTalk (I'm not a member there) was hit very hard.

I'm not sure who will be next, but I hope Charles and the esteemed group of admins here can head it off at the pass. It's gonna be a tough ride it seems.

I tried to get on GlockTalk yesterday only to have my company pc virus detector go off. I later tried to access the site from home on my mac but the site was down. Looks like its up now, but the admin says there was some serious damage.

I've been hacked twice before on my board, both times back in about 2002-2003 or so, and once on a Joomla site back in 2007. It is the Internet equivalent of rape. I think rapists ought to be neutered, publicly, and then hanged. Hackers deserve the same. I have zero sympathy for them. They are not human. They give no quarter or mercy. They deserve none in return.

The only way to protect yourself is to make sure that your site's security protocols are always up to date, that your posting editor does not permit use of HTML or allow a malicious poster to inject any kind of code using the editor, and do a regular, at least daily, backup of your database. The more frequent your backups, the fewer posts will be lost.

Rather than try to explain in my own words what took place at the DC dot com site, let me post a link to the thread that has all the info. I believe that "Bumper", the site admin, has is all cleared up now.... it apparantly explains the issue at GlockTalk as well:

S&W Forum as well. Got hit with a Trojan data logger but fortunately my Microsoft Security Essentials caught it and deleted it completely. I have since decided to never again go to S&W Forum.

Apparently, the problem was/is the tapatalk plugin for iPhones.
