So does anyone have a pool going on when and/or how we will be notified that the new test, answer sheet, and CHL100 have been posted? I want to make sure I get in on it. Right now I am just checking the downloads page every morning.

What I gathered at the conference was to use the old test and CHL 100 until notified by DPS, of course it will require some "modifications"...class hours, certain test answers etc...

Does that mean we are to actually change the answers to the test on the new modified portions, or say "The test says this, and you must answer it this way...but the REAL answer is...."

I don't understand some think DPS should urgently update the test. It's true some answers will not be accurate for a 9/1 class, but they were not any more accurate in practice for a student who took the class 8/1 and doesn't receive their license until 9/1. Never mind that several questions, like the date MPA went into effect, have always been pretty moot once you get your CHL. Plus the "no limit" trick question and the silly target color question on a student test.

How do you seethe "no limit" as a trick question? It is simply saying there is no set amount of alcohol you can say you are safe to carry under. You can't draw it as one glass, 2 beers, etc. It is when you are impaired which could be well under .08.
The color question, waiving of training and the purgery question are there to have the student making sure you as an instructor are doing things properly. Some instructors were not using the correct targets.

Are we authorized to do that? Until I hear otherwise I will do as I am currently doing, "Test asks this, new law is that."
Sheri says new test should be available by Sept 1.

In a word, no.

I have a test with the four questions that no longer apply blacked out that is what I will use if DPS is not forthcoming with the needed information. I will give a 46 question test. I will not teach the "test says this but but the law says this". I see no reason to confuse the students any more than we are. I will give the information as best as I can determine from my reading of the new laws.
Seems lately we can't get authorized on any thing so all you can do is do the best of your ability to keep the program going.

I changed one answer from all the above to none of the above and lined out some verbiage and added 'prior to expiration'. The other two questions are ok, just don't make a lot of sense.

Great minds. Following the test in my class yesterday, I decided that if a corrected test is not forthcoming, I'd do just that: mark the questions off the test sheet and just score 'em as correct. Much more expeditious and far less confusing for the student (who is already suffering from information overload) than "you'll have to answer it this way, but in reality..."

I'd be real cautious about modifying the actual text of any questions or answers. Even if you change only one word, you are in essence writing your own test question - and we have no authority to do that. I realize you're achieving essentially the same end as simply ignoring a question, but I can envision an ugly scenario or two where it might create some difficulty for you down the road. Just my two percent observation ($.02).

I didn't even see a copy of the test my last class. The instructor read the questions to the group and we all "participated" by answering orally. If that is acceptable, I don't see how changing questions in order to be compliant with the new laws is going to get anyone in trouble.

Wow....giving the test orally as a group test? How does that assess that each individual person understands the material and scores a 70%? I'm thinking that's not acceptable.

I was so shocked by the reply to my last post that I forgot why I'd signed on! Ahem:
6 Point Star wrote:I have a test with the four questions that no longer apply blacked out...
I just went through the questions and only see three that I would say have been rendered moot by the 2013 changes. Without giving away any specifics about the test, they are:
(A) An even-numbered multiple choice question relating to renewals. Will not apply after 9/1.
(B) An even-numbered T/F question relating to SA/NSA types. Already defunct.
(C) An even-numbered T/F question relating to missing the renewal grace period. Will not apply after 9/1 (unless DPS somehow creates a grace period. The new statute seems clear that renewals shall happen before expiration).
Can you tell me if you agree with my assessment, and which one I am missing?
Thanks!
