CHL-7 Class Notification---DPS Audit

#1

Post by RossA »

I got my call today. Auditors will be coming by next Friday to check my records. Should be OK, but one thing concerns me.
I read on another post what paperwork the auditors will be looking for. One of those is the CHL7 which you send in to give DPS prior notice that you will be teaching a class. About a year ago I spoke with DPS and they told me that the CHL7 was no longer being used and that I didn't have to send it in anymore, so I stopped doing it. I know it's still available on the DPS Forms page, but I know that I was specifically told by a lady at the DPS number that it's no longer a necessity.
To answer the obvious question, no, I didn't take the lady's name, date of the call, etc.
I teach classes part time, so there aren't that many classes where I haven't sent the form in, but still there are a few.
Guess I'll find out what happens next week.

Same here but I started back because seems everyone else was still sending them. :banghead:

So was anyone else told that the advance notice of holding a class wasn't required anymore?

In my instructor's class, they said the penalty for failure to submit a CHL-7 was death by firing squad. They said they tied you to one of the the turning-targets at the DPS range during the next available instructors class. Kind of a surprise for the shooter at that target position. :evil2: "rlol"

Thanks, but I don't think I'll tell that to the auditors! Really, I would like to know if more people got this same information, or just a few of us got someone at random who didn't know the rules.

Just be honest with auditors & don't get on their bad side about it these folks are not trying to run anyone off except those that just refuse to do the right thing. As I said I also missed a few CHL 7s everything else should be in order (hopefully) just settle down it will work out. I have found the folks from DPS to be very helpful if you're trying but know a couple folks who decided to challenge them as in we know more than you do about this it didn't work out very well. Again it's going to be ok. :txflag:

Do you have any compleated CHL 100 forms? If so you should be good. I keep a copy of my CHL 100 that I Email to DPS on my computer. They were happy with that.

Just answer their questions honestly and don't volunteer any other info and you will be just fine. I was as nervous as a long tailed tom cat in a room full of rocking chairs, I breezed through with no hiccups.

We weren't told this in my instructor classes nor have I been told that at any other time. The closest any comment came was one by the former Instructor liaison who told us not to turn down a last minute request to teach someone. She just said not to make a habit of it.

:iagree: What Charles said was also said in my own class. Sherry explained they do want those reports, but don't turn down anyone just because it's a last minute person.

I was told the same thing a # of years ago, I cant remember when.
I do classes when a group calls me.

I have NCR copy of each CHL 100 class completion I mail ( I tried to down load the one on the inet but the lines were to close togetherand to small I had some one look at on the net and print me one with larger spaces, I hand write all .
I can read yhings on the computer but am lost on the rest :banghead: :banghead: .

Uh oh. Wait a minute.... I was reading through this post and although I have nothing to add that answer's the OP's question, I now have a question of my own. Are we supposed to be sending in copies of the CHL-100s?? :eek6 I do make copies of them for my records at the end of my classes after the students sign them, but then I email the CHL-8 to the DPS listing all of the attendees. I thought just the students were supposed to mail in the original CHL-100s?

Is that incorrect?

My understanding has always been that the student sends in his signed copy and we simply keep a copy for our own records

We are not supposed to send copies of CHL-100's. The Certification of Class Completion is the only documentation we send to DPS.
