Initial Instructor Course Question...

#1

Post by GalaxyFE »

Greetings All,

I am curious about the firing requirement for the course. I did not do the firing portion for my CHL since I am military trained and am not sure what the requirements are. How many people did not qualify? I think I am a fairly good shot, but not sure if I am good enough....depending, anyway. Thanks!

Shooting was at 3, 7 and 15 yards. A total of 50 shots with 20 shots at 3 yards, 20 shots at 7 yards and 10 shots at 15 yards. Shots were fired in groups (e.g. - load five rounds and lock & load..., load four rounds and lock & load..., load six rounds and lock & load..., etc.) with plenty of time (and then some) to fire all shots in a slow and controlled manner. All shots were at a silhouette target, with the center area being 5 points and a minimum of 200 points to pass.

I don't know how many people in my class (about 20 people) failed the shooting part, but if you qualified with pistol in the military you shouldn't have any difficulty.

You will shoot both a revolver a pistol. (be sure to take both) You must pass with a 90% or better. Instructors must use .38/9mm or larger.

Course of fire is

3 YARDS

One round fired in 2 seconds, 5 times
Two rounds fired in 3 seconds, 5 times
Five rounds fired in 10 seconds, 1 time

7 Yards
Five rounds fired in 10 seconds, 1 time
Two rounds fired in 4 seconds, 1 time
Three rounds fired in 6 seconds, 1 time
One round fired in 3 seconds, 5 times
Five rounds fired in 15 seconds, 1 time

15 Yards
Two rounds fired in 6 seconds, 1 time
Three rounds fired in 9 seconds, 1 time
Five rounds fired in 15 seconds, 1 time

You use a standard B27 Target

X, 9 and 8 ring count 5 points. 7 ring 4, and anywhere else on the body 3 points. Misses are 0.

Thanks for the specifics, I really appreciate it. At least I know what to practice now....
